Hi all. I'm new here. My grandparents always had boxers when I was growing up, so I've been a boxer lover my entire life.
My beautiful fawn girl, Bella, who is 6 and a half was just diagnosed yesterday as having a b cell lymphoma tumor by her eye.
It started out as a small bump and I took her to the vet thinking it was just another fatty tumor like she's had removed in the past. He thought maybe it was allergies, so he didn't give me anything for it. It didn't go away and kept getting bigger, so I took her back. He surgically removed it on February 6th. He said the tumor went all the way down to the bone and he got as much of it as he could. He told me if it grew back, I would have to go to a specialist to get it removed by cryotherapy. It was not sent off to be biopsied. (Kind of still mad about that!)
Fast forward a couple weeks later, the tumor started growing back. It looked VERY angry in early March and it seemed like it grew bigger every day! I scheduled an appointment at the University of Illinois Vet and they got her in March 19th. They tried to do a needle aspiration but did not get anything from it they could use. Since the specialist was 3 hours away, they suggested my vet in town could do a biopsy and he could send it to their diagnostic lab.
The results came back yesterday, and here we are. I still can't believe it and I'm in shock. B cell lymphoma. She isn't even acting sick at all. The next step is to do x-rays to see if it's spread anywhere else.
She is my best friend and has been with me through so much. Living far away from family, going through a divorce.. I love this dog to death and my heart hurts. She is what I look forward to going home to at the end of the day. I never imagined I would be dealing with her death so soon. I thought she was going to live a full life with me and be a cute grey-faced old lady. :(
Anyway, I'm really not sure what the next step is besides x-rays and probably blood work. I really can't afford to spend $4,000 on chemo and radiation. I would really love to go to a holistic vet, but I'm not sure how to locate one. I'm definitely switching her diet and I've read lots of stuff about flax seed/cottage cheese. I just want her to have the quality of life she deserves and I'm not going down without a fight!
Has anyone heard about Benadryl and Tagamet shrinking tumors? I found this website of a boxer breeder who uses it and it seems amazing.. almost too good to be true. Since it's not letting me post the link, if you just search for Bavaria's boxers benadryl, it's the first link that comes up. There are some testimonies on it saying that it works, even pictures of a dog who had internal tumors that are now gone. A girl can hope right?
