I would have your vet do a thyroid test to rule out thyroid problems. That is one of the signs of a thyroid issue.

Rocky generally doesn't go out of his way to find hot spots but he does love to lie in the floor where the sun comes through the French doors leading to the deck. I've started using my wood stove in the basement this year and while I'm trying to let the fire build, Rocky wants to stand between me and the stove, making it very difficult to see what I'm doing. He'll stand there until I make him move. I don't know if that's for the heat or if Rocky just wants to be annoying though ;)

liking to be warm is a thyroid issue? I better get myself checked...lol

Yes, seeking out warm places is actually a symptom of hypothyroidism. I just had my lab checked this past weekend, but thankfully the test came back negative. The vet even asked if he liked to lay in warm spots in the house.

Max loves being warm. During the summer, it was 100 degrees outside and all he wanted to do was lie in the sun. We have to really keep an eye on him because he likes to lean against the oven door when it's on. I'm just waiting for him to try to stick his nose in it when I open it.

Even if they have liked warmth their entire life?

I only noticed her hair was thin since I got Chance, who has a lot thicker coat. Maybe white boxer's in general have a thinner coat.

anyways...I'll ask my vet next time I'm in there.

Does she have any other symptoms? Does she gain weight with normal food intake? Low energy levels?

I think most animals (including people) like to be warm rather than cold, especially at rest. I've never met a house-pet that doesn't like lying in the warm spot on the floor where the sun shines through a window. But if there is possibly hair loss along with other symptoms, it wouldn't be a bad idea to talk to the vet about it...

Tula may very well be a normal dog that just likes to seek out warm places. After all, they don't have an undercoat or thick hair and can't tolerate excessive cold or heat, it's just a good idea to be aware of the most common medical conditions that often plague our beloved Boxers and hypothyroidism is one of them. It isn't a condition that usually strikes younger dogs, it's more a middle age thing, but it can happen :)

I have a friend who's boxer lays on their heat registers but mine never have. They will lay in front of the fan in summer heat but as far as cold.....nothing seems to bother them. At this very minute, they're outside playing....YES playing in our 9 degree cold!! It's their routine to go outside in the late evening and play for hours, coming in only to get drinks and check on us. I literally have to MAKE them stay in during the worst cold like we're having now.....which is what I'm off to do now, bring them in YET AGAIN and make them stay!
