I potty trained my two earlier this year and what follows are the things I found most important:
- When you take your dog outside, give the praise the moment your dog starts to eliminate. Make it good, your dog won't think you look silly.

This means you have to stay outside with your dog and watch her pee or poop everytime.
- Close all the interior doors in your home. Try and keep her in a smaller area with you, so you can see the moment she starts sniffing.
- It may sound obvious, but take her after every nap, every meal and every 30-60 mins in between.
- Try and adopt the attitude that if she messes in the house it's your fault not hers (you have to retrain yourself!). I would say "Oh no, poor thing, mummy forgot to take you out in time". This lets your dog know it's not a good thing, but it's not anger either.
- If you catch her in the act, try the "Oh no!" in a dismayed voice and quickly grab her up and take her outside. Yes, this may mean dribbles of pee all through your house or even on your feet in the process, but a week of that is better than a lifetime of pee in the house. When she finishes her peeing outside, PRAISE her.
Rather than trying to teach her not to pee in the house, think of it as teaching her it's GOOD to pee outside.
Think positive and consistent. A couple of weeks of standing outside making an idiot of yourself, day and night in any kind of weather over a dog peeing or pooping isn't all that much fun. But if you are honestly consistent, it will work.
She may have the occassional accident as any baby would, but she will know the proper place to eliminate.
Oh, and crating? My two were crated at night and never messed in their crates. Good luck!! Give your precious girl a hug for me!
