I live alone so it doesn't happen as often, but people often comment to me about my financial situation and why I spend the extra money on the Wellness. Well, I figured it out so I would be able to have an educated response...Even though the foods like Wellness cost a little bit more, you feed them less. So as I calculated...it only costs me about $5 each month. Well worth it. I can just give up one beer each month...and feed my dog better food.

Sometimes "trying" to explain something that is unusual for someone is just wasting your breath. Your BF might have grown up with animals where the "norm" was Pur**a Dog Chow. That is fine for some folks pets but for your boxer you have decided that you would like to offer up something with more nutritional value.
The next time you buy food (wellness) buy your regular size and also a smaller bag. Put the smaller bag away and if you ever run out you always have a backup. Of course this will have to be used before the shelf life expires....easily replaced backup.
I would just stop having the food discussion altogether. Buy it when he isn't around and be done with it. If he still has issues you could "try" explaining that he will be the one that will pay FOR ALL of the future vet bills as *sometimes* poor food choices do result in health problems (allergies, etc....)
He can choose the lesser of 2 evils.
I am lucky, my dh is just as obsessed with my 2 as I am!

I find when there is conflict with an item that needs to be purchased, it is easier to take ALL responsibility. Monitor the amount of food, drive yourself to the store, pay for it, bring it home, and put it away. That way there is never anything to talk about

I think you could buy a bag when the first bag is only 1/2 gone then you will always have the next bag ready. That is what I do and I never have to worry I work late so I can not stop in to the pet store after work. It is also hard to get to the pet store on my lunch hour so I have to get it on the weekend.

My bf gave me flack when I wanted to switch my girl from Purina One to a better quality food...we switched her to Chicken Soup (which she loves) because it wasn't as expensive as Wellness or some of the other ones and is still a good quality food. He complained that reading all the posts on BW was "putting ideas" in my head...uh yeah, good ideas! Everyday I would have something new to quote off BW, but I digress.
I actually calculated how much the better food cost per day and when looking at it like that we saw that it wasn't so bad (compared to how much humans can spend on food!)...I think it averages out to be about $2.00 a day.

I have Titus and Chloe on Wellness also. One thing you have to consider is that it doesnt take as much wellness per serving as some dog foods. When you take that in consideration. plus no cancer causing preservatives that some foods have, the cost is pretty reasonable. My wife and I have had this discussion before ourselves. We tried other foods and have went back to Wellness.

Seriously though...our boxers are our children. I have 3 skinkids and I'm sure it would be cheaper to feed them hotdogs and KD everyday, but is it healthy for them? NOT!! Same goes for my furkids! Their food may be a little more expensive, but it compares nothing to what the vet costs could be as a result from feeding them unhealthy food.

Thanks everyone (we've only been living together for about 7 months) so we're still working on communicating and i appreciate the advice. I do have to admit i'm very stubborn and pig headed when i know i'm right
I think i may just take the responsibilities because we don't agree on cleaning up after him either. Bf wants him to only go in one area, which is totally cool. However, knowing that boxers can poop like hippos, i think that the area should be cleaned at least every day or two. Well. Lets just say that without snow, our backyard would be disgusting. I honestly don't think he's done poop duty in about three weeks. he waits for the snow to cover the old stuff. So when i get home tonight i've decided to take garbage bags and just shovel the whole area snow and all into them. Total grossness. The bf has always had "outside" dogs on an acreage and never cleaned up after them so i think he thinks it doesn't matter. But it's disgusting. I'm going to have to stop the whole, "Don't do anything so he sees how bad it does get" mentality and just do the dog chores myself.
One thing my bf is fantastic about though is being consistent with training. He comes to the classes, practices with Konah and enforces the rules consistently. I'm so happy that's one battle i don't have to fight *L* He's actually better at being consistent than i am...i cave for the mush mush face and "mommy love me anyway" eyes.
