When I got Sirus I was in a relationship with a man who grew up never having an animal in the house...always outside. And it was never really important what the dog was fed...pretty much whatever was available, (they lived in a REALLY small town) which happend to be Science Diet from the Vets office (IMO one of the WORST foods on the market!). So anyhow, the boyfriend said to me..."Hey, I know of a GREAT food!" Needless to say, this did NOT fly with me. After I explained about fillers and how some dogs notorious for allergies don't do well with things like grains and wheats...he totally changed his view. He wants the best for Sirus...just as I do...so he was pretty easy to convince.

Guys are (usually) creatures of logic. Pull out all the comparative info you can get your hands on and *show* him why Wellness is better. Explain to him about some of the horrific things that are in some kibbles, and prove to him why you're right.

A good friend of mine feeds his dog yucky kibble - I am a raw feeder and I used to run a business selling raw food, so this really chaps me - I have gotten him to upgrade from Pedigree to Nutro (he chose Nutro on the advice of the girl at the pet supply store - I wasn't with him that day and they didn't carry any of the ones on the list I gave him), but I'm still working on getting him on a holistic kibble. I know he's not going to do raw - unless he finds a new wife who will do it for him, (me! pick me!) but at least I want that dog on a kibble I'm comfortable with.

Eukanuba

When I got Beau, the breeder estimated and told me he was a year and a half. However, when she sent me his papers, I found that he is only 10 months. I kept him on Diamond when I got him since that's what she had been feeding him. After a month, I realized that he looked pretty thin. I took him to the vet and she said he definitely needed to be on a high quality puppy food since he is still a puppy. She suggested Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy formula. I was sickened at the thought of paying $1 per pound for dog food because I, too, am strapped for cash. However, I will give Beau whatever he needs and do without a few things. I relented and bought the Eukanuba. He has gained a couple of pounds, but is still not a big eater. I still mix it with the Diamond since I had just opened a 50lb. bag of it. He likes the Diamond better, so I guess it's a good thing I can mix it. This might be a good solution for you. Buy a smaller bag of the Wellness and a small bag of a less expensive food and mix the two. It will save you some money, and will provide the nutrients your pup needs.
