Konah's Mom

My poor Konah bear. I love my boyfriend to death but we have VERY differing opinions on raising my boo. (Konah's actually our boo but you know what i mean). I want to feed him Wellness and due to past "disagreements" i said i'd pay for his food (i also pay for most of his vet bills) so that there could be no more arguments. Now my sloth doesn't get up before i go to work So my bf feeds him in the am. I told my bf to tell me when he runs low because i hate having to feed him treats or "samples" of other dog food. Plus I've always been told that you don't just switch a dog to a new food you have to wean them over.

Well lo and behold we run out of food on saturday. I know i should have checked but i had reminded him to remind me to get some more. So off we go to superpet to see if the wellness is there. Well we end up getting in fight in the middle of superpet. The poor sales girl was so uncomfortable. I want him on wellness and i start spouting all the good things about it and them bf starts in on how it's twice as expensive and he says we're not rolling in money and Akana is a good food too. I said you get what you pay for etc and that akana uses fillers (albeit not the too too bad ones, no ash or crushed bones etc). Anyway, i gave up and made him pay for the Akana. I was so pissed! So needless to say Konah had Gas that would burn the nose hairs off a yak last night and my bf said his poop was normal (yeah right honey, wait for it).

I just don't know what to do. I want my baby to have the best food because i've heard about all the skin problems etc (i swear his demodex cleared up faster when he switched to Wellness) and I can't stand cheaping out on him. How does everyone deal with the differeing opinions from loved ones? Sorry this is a rant.

It's very hard to compromise on anything when it comes to raising fur-kids, and I'm sure skin-kids too! My fiance and I have never argued over Farley's food, but we do have disagreements over his training. BF is a live-and-let-live parent, and thinks that training equals work and that it's no fun. And we all know that the key to training any dog is consistency, so that can be quite challenging.

My advice would be for you to stick to your guns about feeding Konah a quality food. Just take on that responsibility yourself and don't argue with him about it. It might mean more of a financial sacrifice for you, but at least you will be in charge. Take note yourself of when you're getting low and go to the store and buy it yourself. There are many things in this world we should all compromise on, but the health of our kids isn't one! :)

First of all the yak comment was hysterical. My husband and I definitely don't agree on Bugzy's upbringing. He gets Wellness also but my husband doesn't know it's 50 bucks a bag. His issues with him are more about his destruction than anything else. I can't stay mad but my husband can. He just doesn't love him like I do. He thinks he's just a dog. I would just do what you want. What does he care if he doesn't have to pay for it? I struggle with this a lot because I consider Bugzy my baby and hurts me when my husband yells at him. He does love him but not like he deserves!

Just my 2 cents worth.....To me ..since you buy Konah's food ..then I would buy any food I darn well please...If she does good on Wellness ...you are paying for her food & health care ...well Wellness it should be....period ...end of conversation....! JMO

My hubby doesn't like it because I have to drive across town to purchase Boo's & Leo's kibble ...but thats the way it is...I will not settle for anything less.

Good Luck with this ...I know sometimes its not easy when theres difference of opinon ...!

haha that made me laugh lol

My bf and I both own Cin, but we split the vet bills...i paid for most of her and he doesnt really care what food shes on. I pay for it, but if I dont have the money hell go pay for it.

I have to agree the yak comment was priceless ;) My DH and I never argue over anything about Shakira except for her digging in the yard and he has come to the conclusion that every spring will be fill in hole season. :) However, Shakira is on Wellness and I would never think of feeding her anything less. You can cut corners on some things but for their nutrition that is something that should not be slighted. Does he smoke, or chew, or snuff or have an expensive habit? If so try buying him a generic brand of that and see what he thinks. :)

Haha.. this worked in our house. If bf complains about dog costs, I open up the liquor cabinet and remind him of his $60 scotch bottles. I would also make sure that your BF is the one who has to clean up his poo for the next few days so he can see how "consistent" it is!!!
