Thanks for all the good thoughts.

Archie's stomach has been much better and is eating two meals of Nature's Recipe canned dog food. I knew he didn't mind this brand, but I'm really amazed that for the past few days he's eaten it so often. Guess I should have tried that earlier. Plus, either the antacid or the antibiotic must be working to alleviate the problems.

The vet that does the cat scans is out until next week, so we'll make an appointment then for his heart scan. Since the vet told me what to watch for, the sudden stop of activity, coughing, and breathing very hard, it's so easy to see that something is wrong. Hopefully once we get that scan we can do something to make his heart stronger and better.

Does anybody have an idea of what types of meds he would be on for an irregular heart beat and enlarged heart? I'm worried that they might have really bad side effects.

There are many, many cardiac drugs and he may end up on more that one. My SAS boy, Fraze, is on two cardiac meds and has done very well on both of them. He is happy and active. Most dogs respond well to the meds and doses can be adjusted to best suit the dog. I bet your boy will actually feel much better once he is on the proper meds. Wishing you and Archie the very best and please keep us posted on how it all goes

Oh, I'm so glad to hear that Archie is doing better. :) I bet his tummy feels good now. I'm pretty sure there are drugs out there that can help with his enlarged heart. The vet thought Ali had a heart murmur at last visit but when he rechecked it sounded fine. He told me the same things to watch for re coughing at night, stop running or walking and not wanting to move. So far Ms Ali hasn't showed any signs of this so hopefully when I take her back her heart will still sound as it should. I still worry a bit thinking maybe if the vet heard a murmur once then maybe he could have missed it the second time. Anyway my thoughts are with you and Archie and I'll be watching the post to see how he's doing. Keep well sweet boy. Your mommy loves you and so does everyone here at Boxer World.

Experiencing the same symptoms as Archie

Maizie (9 yo) is having almost exactly the same symptoms as Archie. She started throwing up first thing yesterday morning. I held her food and she seemed ok by last night so I fed her some boiled chicken and rice. She started throwing up at 2 am and by this morning was throwing up bright yellow because her stomach was finally empty. Her stomach sounded like a wind tunnel and loud enough to keep everyone up. I am going to call the vet to take her in today but I am just wondering...Did you ever figure out what was causing Archie's problems?

Her stomach finally quieted down after I took her for a short walk and she was able to have a bowel movement about 7:00 am. But her stomach is very hard and you can tell she was very uncomfortable. After her walk she seems much better and finally is laying down and snoring on her bed (her usual).

Any info you could pass along would be much appreciated. I almost ran her to the ER last night b/c I was afraid of bloat...

I'm so sorry to hear about Archie and his pancreatitis. We almost lost our dear Zeus to pancreatitis and he had to stay in the hospital overnight on an iv. It was one of the most awful days of my life. However, the good news is that there are still quite a few healthy snacks that he can have. After Zeus was on a strict diet for a few months to calm his pancrease down we got the okay to give him apples, bananas, green beans, ect. I just can't give him anymore puppy treats, peanut butter, or that stuff. Also, if you ever want to research more food Solid Gold Holistique Blendz is for pancreatic dogs and my pups love it. It is very very very low in fat and we mix it with a little low-fat Natures Best RAW chicken and they gobble it up.
Anyway, lots of luck to you! Be sure to let the vets know he has pancreatitis before they administer any future medications because many will have bad side effects now. Oh, and diabetes can be an effect too so watch the sugar intake.
It will be alright. ;)

PS: To the other person who was concerned with your pup, my boy vomited once and did not have a bowel movement and I took him to the vet. At that time he had a 50/50 chance of survival...so if you're ever concerned just take your baby to the doctor. I'm sooo blessed that I did.

pancreatitis too

I took Maizie to the vet this am for the same symptoms as Archie and the vet did some xrays and bloodwork. The bloodwork can back this afternoon with pancreatitis also, so she is in the hospital tonight. I'm glad I read this thread this morning and pushed the vet to get us in. We'll know more tomorrow.

Maizie's Mom: So sorry to hear about your baby. Sending good wishes her way for a speedy recovery. Our babies are so precious that it nearly kills us when they get sick. Take care to both of you.
