Last Thursday (Dec 2) was Tae's second birthday. In honor of her big day, I stopped at the pet store to buy a bully stick for her. I also bought a can of Merrick dog food as a special birthday treat. Has anyone heard of it? Here's a link: http://www.merrickpetcare.com/store/canned_dog_food.php.

The guy at the pet store said they had just gotten it in and he had fed some to his dog and it smelled like "people food."

I got the "Mediterranean Banquet" flavor for Tae. It had lamb, spinach, cottage cheese, chick peas, and granny smith apples in it. She loved it. Her tummy tolerated it just fine, which was great--wouldn't want to cause lower GI upset on her birthday. She got leftovers the next two days, as there was no way she could come close to finishing one can for dinner.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that Mediterranean Banquet most definitely did NOT smell like people food. It smelled like canned cat food, but not as fishy. Ewww.

The pet store is charging $2/can, so I may just treat my girlie to another flavor sometime soon. Maybe for New Year's!

I picked up 6 cans just a few days ago when we went out to buy another bag of Canidae. The ingredient lists for all the flavors is really impressive. So far the kids have had a few spoonfuls of the Turducken (Turkey, duck and chicken) mixed in with their kibble and they really enjoyed it.

Buster bounces around the kitchen in ecstasy hollering "Oh boy oh boy we get STINKY STINKY FISH!!" when he sees us reach for a can of sardines so I can only wonder what his reaction will be to the "Campfire Trout" flavor...

The ingredient list is in fact quite impressive. Definitely human grade stuff.

I'm thinking Tae will try each "flavor." There's no way to tell if she has a preference b/c she loves anything I give her, except for spinach leaves...and carrots...

You are brave to feed sardines. I know they are a good source of calcium, but don't think I could handle the smell! Does Buster have sardine breath after eating them???

I buy the Merrick fairly frequently as a special treat. We had "Thanksgiving Dinner" on the appropriate day -- and will probably have it on Christmas, too!

Cowboy cookout is a hoot!

My Dogs love it. I buy a case of the verity pack at a time. I spilt half a can between the two of them once a day. It's just a special treat to tell them how much mommy loves them. When I have time I love to prepare them homemade fresh food along with their kibble but more often then not I just don't have the time.
Some of the flavors definitely smell and look more like people food then others. Try Grammy's Chicken Potpie. I swear I could serve it for dinner as soup and no one would know.

Yes, the food looks great but my reasoning is if you doing to spend $2.30 for a 13oz can of food why not get your dog a cheap steak or some other kind of real human meat?

B/c if people are using this as all, most, or half of the dog's diet, (I have a friend who is using this as exactly half of her dog's diet) it is nutritionally balanced for a dog, where if you just give the dog meat all he's eating is a lot of protein and too much phosphorus which is not balanced with calcium. If you feed just meat like that you really have to know what you’re doing with supplements. Of course if it’s just a small add-in to kibble then meat is great too. :)

I opened up a can of the Mediterranean banquet today and wasn't impressed. The top inch of the can was just gooey sauce. It reminded me of canned Pedigree. Actually, I think the Pedigree looks better. He seemed to like it though.

The Mediterranean Banquet certainly didn't look or smell good, but the ingredient list is impressive. That said, Tae will try a different flavor next time, as we must try them all!

My babies love it! Specially the wingaling!!! they are actual chicken wings with the real bone, but don't panic!!! the bone as soon as you touch it, it dissolves.... and the food smells so good!!!
