well then...i hope i can get it by september 1st as well...(yay!! "expedited")
maybe we can start by supporting each other and begining the detox stage. i'd hate to do it so close to the holidays but then that would be the ultimate test, yes?

"Get healthy and become a hermit" LOL

Whatever it takes I guess

Guess what - after that little rant about the book not coming today - well it came about 30 minutes after I posted LOL!

I started reading the book and it all makes a lot of sense - I am going to read the entire book before I start the "Diet" I really want to do this, I am tired of eating worthless food.

I don't care if I am not going to eat another Thanksgiving dinner - Food isn't important to me - I just want to go more "Natural" :)

 well, me being of hispanic descent, our "thanxgiving" and xmas for that matter, isn't just turkey, gravy and stuffing, and pecan or apple pies...it's also tamales, cabrito, mole, empanadas, churros, and cafe mexicano (has cinnamony-chocolate in it-hmmmm).
my grandmother is the type that says-
ohhhhh "mija" you look so skinny!!! Here have some mole, arroz con frijoles, and homemade tortillas!!!! (back then i was about 160 looking like a sausage in my cruel girl jeans-only I was the cruel one to the jeans...not the other way around)

(translations-
tamales - beef or chicken stuffed in corn meal "pockets", wrapped in corn husks and steamed
cabrito - barbqued goat (i know that's gross)
mole - chicken in a chili-chocolate-peanut sauce
empanadas - pastries usually filled with apples or pumpkin
churros - candy made with evaporated milk, honey, and cinnamon sort of like the peanut brittle only without peanuts. :)
cafe - coffee
mija - slang for mi hija or my daughter
arroz con frijoles - rice with beans
and we all know tortillas!!!)

I finished the whole book - I am a very deterimined reader :)

They have some really neat recipies in there - well all of them are neat and they all sound good :) and there are SO Many of them.

There is even a section in the back of the book that has websites where you can buy alot of your raw supplies - its great.

Poor Portiz :( on the raw diet you can't have any of that stuff you mentioned - but there are substitutes/adaptations for refried beans and corn tortillas and some other things.

I can't wait to start - I just have to finish my research and look up the websites, then I can buy my supplies and start.

We should start something where we can give each other support - that would be fun :)

YOU FINISHED THE WHOLE BOOK ALREADY!?!?!? wow...well, i'm determined to do the same, just waiting for it to be friday and order it.
I'm looking forward to the results. However, it is approximatley 2 months for you to undergo detox and clearly see the results, right? I have a professional engineer's test that i am currently studying for. its on October 27th. i'm not sure that i want to subject myself to the low points during this time. and believe me...i am not making excuses. it's just that this is the third time i am taking this test. they say its similar to a CPA's test; it is 8 hours long and the last time i took it, i was there from 6:30 am til almost 8:30 pm becasue the testing agency was trying out a new format or something.
ANYWAY, i know changing my diet will benefit more than not. i guess i should just make up my mind aafter i read the book. Maybe the diet change will help me retain the information i need to pass this stupid test?? ;)
well, whatever you all are wanting to start as a support group i will be more than happy to participate in.

I read in the book that it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to a few months to go through detox - it depends on how crappy the food you eat now is :)

If you have been eating crap your whole life then it will take longer :)

I would hold off until after you take the test to start detox - it does say that you do get tired and can get headaches - definatly not something you want when you are trying to concentrate :)

Wait - I didn't read the whole book - I read everything except the testimonials where people say "oh I have been on the diet for suchinshuch years and I feel great . . bla bla blah" - I will read those later today

I figured they wern't too important - I was more interested in the actual diet - not the people, but I guess that is important too :)

well, i'll keep that in mind...but i need brain food!!! i know bananas and apples are the best for that. spinach and carrots. any other recommendations?!?!?!
i guess i should stop smoking too. i'll tell you what though...i've cut back ALOT. i used to smoke a pack every two days. now i'm stretching it out a week. i'm hoping that by christmas i'll have quit. however, our test results come out right before the new year. i'm either going to be ringing in a great new year with a hefty salary raise and a new office or i'll still be in this same cubicle!!!

Louie's Mom: Was there anything in the book that surprised you. Ive been reading up on the internet all i can but i have this nagging feeling when the book gets here It will be completely different than what im imagining now.

Im more than willing to be apart of the support as long as you all can put up with my B!tch!ness when the headaches come lol

I love Alissa's book, I've had it for over a year now and have made a lot of the recipes and adapted them and changed some of the one's I didn't like as much. There is also an area to discuss the recipes & other raw recipes at rawfoodtalk.com (Alissa's site).

Detox can be bad the first week, but honestly, it doesn't usually keep you from doing everyday stuff. I have heard of some people getting flu like symptoms for the first week or so, I didn't. I broke out and I had a headache, that's about all.

Not only do you feel better physically, going raw seems to make you more spiritually aware and more calm and centered. It's hard to explain, I guess you just have to try it and see for yourself! ;)

Remember, you don't have to make all the recipes all the time (they can be complicated and not always turn out like you expected) you can have fresh whole fruits and vegi's, salad's w/avocado for dressing, and smoothies (bananas & frozen fruits).
