I just purchased a book on raw eating and it should arrive next week - It sounds really interesting and I am really thinking that I may just do it.

You arn't supposed to eat anything processed or heated above 116 degreese
you can use a dehydrator

You can have

Vegetables (fiber, protien,fat, vitamines)
Fruits (fiber,vitamines,sugar)
Nuts and seeds (PROTIEN,fat, fiber)

I am just wondering about calcium?? Good thing I take a multivitamin and Citracal :)

I guess I will just have to read the book - it says that there are many ways to prepare raw foods now, not just munching on plain veggies like a rabbit :)

Got me curious now. How about properly steamed(still crisp not mushy) veggies? I guess Sushi would be included also or is this a vegan diet? Calcium would probably be in fresh milk if you could find it. Cheese isn't cooked either unless pasteurization is considered as cooking.....hhhhmmmmn. More research!

Yeah - I don't think you can have any dairy, because it has to be pasturized and that is cooking.

I wish that book would hurry up and get here :)

I would ask people on raw forums but I read over a lot of threads and they don't eat anything that comes from an animal because they think its cruel (vegans) They were even saying "poor ants" when someone mentioned eating ants *eye roll* :)

I read somewhere that dairy is bad for you - because it isn't natural to be drinking baby food from another species while your an adult? or something like that - I dunno? but they do believe that dairy is bad for you.

I've been a raw foodist for 2 years. There's tons of calcium in raw veggi's. I haven't had any problems with deficiencies at all and I feel years younger. It's cured my acne, fibromyalgia, depression, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

There's a thread about it down farther on the page. :)

Steaming the veggi's is better than cooking them, but it still kills the enzymes in the food, which is part of the reason that we eat things all raw. Most raw foodists are vegan's, but not all. I know of some who eat raw meat(sashimi) and raw honey, but most do not eat raw dairy because of the reason's mentioned.

I know of many people with allergies who just cut out dairy products and all of their allergies dissapeared.

yeah...they say you get more of the protien, calcium, and vitamins from green leafy vegetables than you would from meat and chicken. your body converts it to protien and so you get a better type of protien that you would if you were to only eat meat and chicken. it's been very interesting reading so far.

Louie's mom...which book did you purchase? the one from anna Cohen?
