anyone here work a full time job and can't go home inbetween?

just wondering what you do while your gone? if you don't have a dog sitter, or a loacal dog walker. how long do you leave your boxer home alone and where do you put her?

I was also wondering what people do. I only work 4-5 hour shifts so I come home immediately and prey there isn't a huge mess when I open the door.

Of course. DH and I both work 8 hour days -- and we also like to travel a lot.

We rescued our Boxers and so they were already potty trained and could hold it. It would have been very hard with a puppy. Ocassionally we do the doggy day care thing, as well.

As for traveling, it's just pretty expensive to board

But well worth it!

DH and I both work full time...we teach, so needless to say, our very short lunch breaks are not long enough to get home since we work 30 min away. Anyway....Lambeau is crated all day. He does just fine...no accidents. He is a year now. Although, we did have someone come let him out around noon until just recently. A friend of ours let him out from when he was 6 wks to about 11 months old. They recently moved away and so now we don't have anyone. If I think about how long he is in that crate, I get so sad during the day!! But, we leave the tv on and his crate is next to a window so he has a nice view and it is plenty big enough for him to stretch out. Can you hear me trying to make myself feel better...?

Most days, I take Tess to the puppy park before work and wear her out that way before leaving her. I do come home at lunch most days, but sometimes am not able. I'm trying to get her into a doggy day care at least 1x a week so she's not alone so much.

I was thinking about hiring a neighboorhood kid to walk Tess when he/she gets home from school. That way, she's not spending SO much time alone. Have you thought of that?

I posted a question much like this one just a few weeks ago. I am sometimes gone for up to 10 hours, and any break that i get to give her are around 15-30 mins or so. I hated the thought of her being alone in a crate all day. We did just find someone to come and play with her in the afternoons, so that makes me feel better. She doesnt seem to mind to much (I am fairly certain that she sleeps for most of the day), but I do wish there was another way around it. However, she is getting an even larger crate, and she has plenty of toys... I really think it bothers me more than it bothers her!! Oh, and by the way, she has never had an accident while we are away!

Hi, I can tell you a little bit from my experience. I work at home so Duffy, a 8 months old female, is pretty much used to have me around all day long. However I already needed to leave her alone for several hours in a row. During the day there is no problem. She stays in the yard and just confortable. Lots of food and water. At night I needed to leave her only 4 times, so far, a maximum of 9, 9.5 hours. I left her inside, upstairs, where she prefers to be, joined all her toys and... oh well, and I closed the door and went away.

I must say now that I spent the whole night affraid of something happening with her or finding my house a huge mess. I even forgot to remove some books that I have in a shelf and which are very low and thought that when arriving I would not have any. But nothing happened. The house ok all the times, she did not do anything inside (but this as a matter of fact I would be surprised if she had pooped or anything inside), only the toys all over the floor!

And, of course, on arrival, that lovely kidney bean welcome that only boxers do!

I work all day, but i"m lucky my mom doesn't work so she is Titan's baby-sitter. (another reason I dont want to move out from home yet). There was an article in the newspaper about a doggy day care in town opened- and I mentioned something about maybe Titan could go once and see how it was....well my mom got offended I guess b/c she says "Titan doesn't need a day care, he's got me. And we're going on a field trip today to the park" I was like, well ok then. ( I wanted to ask if I should pack him a peanut butter sandwich for his lunch on his field trip---but I was smart and opted not to and kept my mouth shut!!)

Although both of mine are crated trained, I would never leave them in the crate and go out, leaving them alone. I'm just too too afraid of a fire of unknown origin breaking out. I'm at home full time, but if I have to go out - they have full run of the house.

Some people who work have 2 dogs, to keep each other company.
Some people give their dog a lot of exercise before and after work.
Some people choose a low energy dog.
Some people have someone come in, or drop the dog with a sitter.

Many people just don't give a damn -

All people have busy lives to live and many things to do in this world - but try to remember: The Dog Only Has You. You are his entire world.

I have 2 boxers, and I feel really bad leaving them alone all day so I have a pet sitter come at lunch time to spend some time with them. Depending on the weather they may be inside, or outside (in my secure back-yard). Now that it is winter they are generally inside, but if the afternoon is nice my pet sitter may leave them out for the afternoon. When they are inside my older boxer has the run of the house, as he can be trusted not to destory things, and my little girl (21 months) is left in the kitchen, with lots of toys, a kong and things to chew on.
