I am in the process of adoption with Second Chance Boxer Rescue, and the waiting game is killing me.

I have been contacted by them and have forwarded my references to the next person in the process.

My question is this............How long does it take to get from application to adoption with them?

Just curious,

Steve

Well as it would have it..........I just got off the phone with Second Chance. Did the phone interview, and it seemed to go great. She said that it could be another 2 weeks or so but should go smooth.

I got my Susie from SCBR. But that was several years ago and they are under completely new management and have all new people working with them now. So, I can't offer any advice.

Hi Steve!
I volunteer with SCBR.. thats where i got Phantom! My application process took one month. i submitted it on January 1st, 2004, and went to pick up Phantom on Feb. 3, 2004. I know, the wait is AWFUL, it seems like forever! but hang in there! it will be over before you know. Second Chance is an amazing organization to be apart of and you won't be sorry, i promise! Which boxer do you have your eye on? any one in particular?? Feel free to PM me if you ever need anything!

Good luck, and congratulations on your decision! :-D

Well a month isn't too bad....................YES IT IS.............LOL. The wait is the hardest part of the whole process. I know it is all volunteers and you can't force people to work harder..........but I hate waiting.

We are watching Simon and Daisy........Simon being 1st.

The woman who did my phone interview had met Simon a month ago and said he is a great dog........so that was good to hear. The downside is that it will be a 9-10 hour drive to get him.........but I'll do it.

I adopted from SCBR a in the beginning of June. Great group of people who were willing to go the extra mile to make sure we were matched with the right boxer. I highly recommend them. We now have an 11 month old male to go along with our 4 year old female. Be patient, they have a lot on thier plate, they will eventually get everything worked out for you.

Steve--that comment made me laugh so hard... I just got done calling 9 people while on a break here at my 8-5 job, screening, explaining in detail why we spay and neuter to a lady that wants to breed her dog with one of our rescues, and I had about 30 e-mails to respond to, not to mention the 15 apps I need to still screen. Only an hour lunch and today I didn't get a chance to eat, but because of my calls, tomorrow I am getting to go on a couple of dog appts where I hope to place a dog into a forever home...so it's worth it....tell my stomach though, as I munch on my stash of goldfish I keep in my desk drawer... ;)

I'm not with SCBR, but I know we are all in the same boat and we work our little butts off for these sweet babies, and we work sooooooo hard, FOR the dogs... SO...don't worry, Steve---all in good time, as Paul said. We all want to find the RIGHT dog for the RIGHT family, and to do that takes a bit of time... Just hang in there...

Good Luck, Steve. Let us know how it turns out. :)

I am addicted to the SCBR web site! I live nowhere near there but love to look and see who has found a home. They homed a boxer a couple of months ago that was found on a road side starved & abused with his penis tied up to prevent him from urinating. This was discussed for quite some time here on BW and I found them through that unfortunate incident. Have been checking in on them for some time now! I thought I recognized Phantom! what a small world it is!

SCBR experience

Funny you should ask...I just adopted "Chloe" from SCBR (the cute little brindle girl) I submitted my application mid-to late May, and we just picked up Chloe this last weekend. The reference part took the longest, once we got our references done, it took about a week for the home visit, and then about two weeks after that for approval. I originally filled out an application for Northeastern Boxer Rescue about two weeks prior to SCBR, and to date, haven't heard a single word from them-very poor experience-IMHO. I am very happy with SCBR, and my advice would be to be patient (they place a lot of dogs!) and every once in awhile if you don't hear anything, send a very gentle email touching base. It's hard to wait, I know! but it is SO worth it!! they are very good about telling you what a dog's issues might be, so you can make an informed opinion. I used watch the site, and see all kinds of wonderful dogs get adopted, and despair that I would get the one I wanted, but I can tell you in all honesty, that they get so many dogs (and have so many more on waiting lists) that you will find the perfect dog for you. good luck, we are ecstatic with our new dog!!

Well it's good to hear such good things about SCBR.

It is tough to keep watching the website knowing that the dog you want could be taken before you get final approval. But like the woman on the phone said during my interview...........there are many many more boxers coming in all the time and you are more then likely going to find the exact same dog in a month that you had your eye on last month.

Oh well............for now we'll just wait and hope to hear from them soon. They are in the personal reference stage now, and then the home visit after that. She said the home visit should be no problem as there are quite a few people around me to do it.
