I do not have my puppy yet....he or she is coming this spring (2005)I am trying to do much of my research on the breed through reading as well as this forum.
I NOW know that i must have a crate so that this will be his sanctuary...as well as make toilet trainning much easier.
I have found a petstore in my area with great prices and amazing products.
I went in....to see if they carry Wellness.
They do not but they do carry a number of organic foods human grade that cought my eye.
Here are two that I think have great ingredients and are roughly the same price.
1)Perfomatrin Ultra
2)Royal Canin
I have found some posting here on the Royal Canin...and some have stated that it made their dogs have more runny stools. So I am leaning towards the 1st one.
it states....NO CORN<NO ANIMAL BY PRODUCTS NO ARTIFICIAL ADDITIVES>>NO PRESERVATIVES>>NO SOY>>>NO WHEAT>>NO RENDERED ANIMAL FATS
any thoughts?

I've not heard of the first one, but my minpin is on Royal Canin and is doing great. Stools are fine, his coat is sooo silky and soft and shiny and eye tears are down to a minimum. He is on the picky eater food :) Good Luck! Another good food is Natural Balance and Nutro Ultra if you want to look at them.

I feed both of mine the Royal Canin Natural Blend. Kailee has been on the food for 3+years now, and Clyde since we got him 18 months ago. Both are doing exceptionally well on it.

I have seen the Performatrin food, and I believe my friend feeds it to her furbaby. I'll ask her and if it is the same food, I'll give you her feedback on it. ;)

thanks

Thank you for your imput.
.we are actually thinking of naming the puppy buddy...as my 6 year old picked the name saying that we must get a male dog to even out the famle/male ratio in our home...i guess he feels outnumberedLOL..he has said he will be the dogs forever buddy and we should name him Buddy...how cute!!
I think the 1st brand i mentionned is only sold in Canada...thats why i guess not too many here have heard of it.

I have fed my dogs both Performatrin Ultra and Royal Canin Natural Blend. Royal Canin is more expensive, however I found the Performatrin Ultra to work just as great if not better, and the nice thing about it is that since it is Pet Valu's brand they will always have it in stock. I used to feed Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice (B/C no corn or soy in it) but they never had any in stock and I was left to run around town trying to find it. Now I know that as my dad says "that's gotta tell you something" I don't agree. I am constantly annoyed that they never have any in stock and in emergencies I either have to buy the real small bag (which lasts all of 3 days) or switch foods! So Performatrin Ultra is the choice for me. (my thoughts only) :)

good luck :)

I personally do not feed Performatrin Ultra, I feed Nutro Natural Lamb and Rice. But, my mom (whom when I was growing up always fed our dogs Ol' Roy) now feeds her dog Perfomatrin. I started telling her about how horrible of a kibble Ol' Roy was and I tried to give her suggestions on what to feed OR even just somethings to look for. And Performatrin Ultra is what she came up with. I personally haven't looked at the ingredients, but she read it to me over the phone. And I must say that it sounds a heck of a lot better than Ol'Roy...lol. So, I would say that I think it is pretty good quality for store brand and for the price. But that is just my opinion.

.
I think Buddy is a great name for a little boy's dog........makes me smile just to think of it. Don't be surprised if he likes (and sneaks) raw potatoes like Jean's Buddy did.
