Wow! I am trying to remember what it was like when we brought Bridget home (it was a little easier for the other boxers because other dogs were in the house). My Bridget did not like her crate and she whined most of the night. I tried having her sleep in her crate in our room and it did not work. I just hope your little one likes its crate. I just remember getting up at 6:00 to go to work and crying because I was so tired and my husband saying "well people with babies go through this all the time". I replied "we don’t have kids because I did not want to go through this." Well as you see by my signature I got over the loss of sleep and have gotten even more boxers. I would not have it any other way. Best of luck to you.

I got absolutely NO sleep those first few nights when Maggie first came home with me. Not because she was up or had to go out or anything since she slept through the night since the first night. No, I couldn't sleep because she was (is) so beautiful and I was so overjoyed to finally have my little boxer girl, I stayed up just watching her sleep (and fart) and dream. It was some of the best sleepless nights I've ever spent.

I can't remember anything good about Lexi's first year of life except that she was cute and cuddly  When you look up the word destructive in the dictionary..you'll see a picture of my baby girl. My best advice is buy a crate. You'll never regret it ;) Enjoy your new bundle of joy. After the first year or two the good outweighs the bad :p

Our first nights

We brought Phoebe home at 8 weeks and we had a little box and towels for her to sleep in, Nichole and I sectioned off the family room/kitchen area to confine her and we spread a big comforter out on the family room floor and slept in there with her (near the door to go out) for the first 2-3 nights. She never let out a peep and we took turns getting up with her. It was tiring but worth it. Now she sleeps on our bed with us, she is 4 months old now, and the only problem is she is such an early riser!!! 5-6 am comes and she is ready to go out and wants to play. Have fun and good luck.

We brought Marlee home a month ago (at 8 weeks), and to be honest with you, I was bracing myself for a few sleepless nights, and some adjustment time. However, we were pleasantly surprised, and she has been a dream!! I don't know if it's just her, or maybe some of the things I've done to help her adjust.

She has slept through the night from the second night on. We put her in an X-Large crate with our other two dogs at night, so I think that has helped her sleep through the night, since she isn't in there by herself. She is also able to hold it all night until about 7:30 in the morning. I help her with this by picking up their water by 8:00pm and making her "potty" just before bed at around 10:00 pm.

To me, when you have more than one dog, and you crate-train them, everything is so much easier. She's able to burn so much more energy playing with the other dogs, than she would if we were playing with her. She's never alone, so she doesn't cry as much. And the crate training comes in so handy for helping them learn to hold it at night; to keep them from being destructive while you are away, or can't supervise them; and to give them a needed time-out once in a while, etc. I also have an exercise pen set up in the backyard for when we are away longer than would be comfortable for her to be crated. That helps to keep her out of trouble in the backyard, but she can also go potty when she needs to.

Anyway, good luck with your new little one Zoey!!

We brought Jackson home on July 9. He was about 9 weeks old and he was amazing. I really didn't know what to expect but he was an angel (and still is for the most part).

We made sure to give our breeder a blanket that she kept in the crate with him and his litter mates for about 3 weeks so it could get a familiar smell on it. Let me tell you that it DEFINITELY smelt when we brought it home. We also made sure that for the first week we were home (we took Pupternity leave).

I made sure that I was walking Jackson a lot right before bed and he only would get up once a night to pee and then he would go right back to sleep. He never had a problem with the crate because that was what he slept in at the breeders.

I guess it all depends on the dog. Jackson is very laid back. He has been an absolute joy. He hasn't eaten anything he isn't supposed to. He usually only chews on his toys (except when he can get his mouth on my slippers or underwear)

By the way: the stories about the gas aren't all that funny. I swear that I wanted to check Jackson's butt to make sure he didn't burn another hole. Wow. Something so stinky from something so little

Good luck to you and I look forward to hearing lots of stories.

Matt and Lisa -
Congratulations! I have 2 12 week old littermates and they are getting better each day! The first week was like a newborn baby!
They sleep in crates and woke up at 2:00 a.m. and then 5:00 a.m.
But after then - sleep til 6:00 a.m. Please remember to keep your sense of humor and be patient! He will eventially learn the rules of the house. Cannot be upset over 'boo-boos'. They will learn the things that are important and right versus bad things.
They love praise - but be prepared-- you could have some sleepless nights in the beginning....But well worth it!!!!!!!

Good luck!
