any southerners out there.(kind of long)

my better half is getting her masters or is in the process of doing it I should say. I am trying to get my associates before I get out of the Marines and we are trying to decide where to go. Once she has her masters she should be able to work at most hospitals and I am looking to become a police officer so I should be able to find work pretty much anywhere. We currently live in North Carolina but I would rather move from the state because I don't really like where we are at and it rains to much for me. We are looking for a place that is not neccessarily suburbia but she doesnt really like the country because she likes having big malls around. Someplace she can go shopping a lot so I can hopefully take the dogs to the park while she is gone so I don't have to go :D We have thought about West Palm Beach Florida (have family there) Atlanta Ga., Las Vegas Nv (family there as well too) and Virginia Beach where I grew up but I don't really want to go back because it's to close to my parents.( i know that sounds bad but my family is very dramatic sometimes) anybody have any suggestions about the places I listed or where you live we are open for anything, Thanks in advance.

I went to University of Arkansas at Little Rock and then worked at New Orleans for 2 years. I know about south:D

Many people think LÝttle Rock is boring and dull. Well, there were times that I was bored beyond belief but then again, there are times that I'm bored her ein one of the biggest cities of the world, Istanbul

Little Rock is fun. Not too big, not too small. Just some southern accent, that's all. New Orleans is though whole different ball game. Now, there were days where I could nor breathe. But it was soooo much fun:D

Come to Kentucky! I live in Lexington (pop. approx. 250,000). Louisville is 75 miles west, and Cincinnati is 75 miles north. Lexington has lots of hospitals and opportunities for nurses, and we need good police officers, too! Lexington has the University of Kentucky, so it offers a lot of activities, education there.

Thanks for the advice. I have looked into Lexington and New Orleans pd's so far. I think the big thing is going to be the price or well cost of living because we are starting a family in the next few years so we want a 3 bedroom house that wont kill us. A big thing for me is the weather. I want to go somewhere where the summer is long and it doesn't rain a lot. I know that is getting picky but I like taking my babies to the park to run around. I also have a jeep that I like taking the top down and the doors off. That doesn't happen very often in eastern n.c. so that is one of my big motivations to get out of there. I am also planning on buying a motorcycle so that is going to be another reason I am going to want to stay away from somewhere where it rains a lot. Thank you for the info though keep it coming.

Some summers in Ky. are long and dry. I don't know many places in the SE that don't get much rain. Maybe the southwest would be better for you in that respect.

Housing is relatively cheap here in Lexington, and the surrounding area, too! There are several smaller communities close to Lexington that are affordable, too. Nicholasville (Jessamine Co.), Georgetown (Scott Co.), Winchester (Clark Co.), and Richmond (Madison Co.). But, they all get rain, too!

I live in North GA, and I would definatley say come to GA. I moved here from the D.C. area a year ago, and I would never go back. If you are looking at Atlanta, it is only 65 miles or so from where I live, but there are great areas just north of Atlanta that are great places to live and raise a family (and there are a lot of Boxer owners in GA too) The best part about GA is the cost of living, houses are nice and cheap here (so I have found) and we have the best of both worlds here, the beach and the mountains. As far as shopping for your gf, the malls and outlets here are wonderful, and all within about and hour or so from each other, so another plus. So you have my vote.....

I would head southwest if dry is really that important to you. The southeastern climate is humid - which means rain. Certainly some summers end up with drought conditions and are very dry, but over the long haul, any of southeaster states will get a fair amount of rain. I'm not sure how long you have been in north carolina - I've been here for about 2 years and saw two very different summers. The first summer I was here was a serious drought. The second was completely opposite and I felt like it rained all the time. A "typical" summer will probably be something in between.

I have not been to the southwest myself, but I do have friends in Arizona who absolutely love it - they love to be outside, so the fact that it is warm and dry makes it perfect for them. To me it sounds like it's just too hot in the summers, but everyone says it really doesn't feel as bad when it's dry heat.

Sweet Home Alabama!

Come on to Bama! (northern bama) .... if you go too far south in Bama then the less there is to do. I live about 20 to 30 miles north of Birmingham. The Hoover area is great. LOTS of shopping... Trussville is BOOMING! And then of course over on 280 in great too. Birmingham and the surrounding cities have really been growing. There's plenty of shopping and all that. The summers are long... maybe a little longer than what I would like (I am from Pittsburgh PA, I miss the snow!) But I don't think I would ever move back... I love it here. And certainly not too rainy.

The southwest is very dry....too dry sometimes. I would love to see more rain here. The cost of living here in southwest Colorado is extremely high, I am not sure about New Mexico and Arizona.
