I know this post is a few days old but I just had to add...

I get migraines at "that" time of month, and also between because of various factors...stress, little sleep, crying, etc.

My doctor put me on a certain birth control pill where you only menstruate 4 times a year, and this has really helped.

She also put me on a beta-blocker (usually used for blood pressure) for a preventative. I am to take this pill, Inderal, once a day a week before I am expected to get my period. What happens during migraines is vasodilation of the vessels in your brain..which causes pain. Inderal prevents this dilation and prevents migraines...works great!

I also take the migraine pill Amerge...love it, doesn't have the side effects that other pills like Imitrex cause.

Hope this helps for fellow sufferers..migraines are awful!

I just came upon this thread and thought I would see if I could ind something to help. I have had chronic headaches and migraines since being a kid. I have complained to my doctor but he doesn't do a thing. "It's just stress." Well, no s*#t! Help me! I guess here in Ontario, Canada since we don't pay for health care we also don't get options. I have found going to the chiropractor for adjustments has helped but I have moved and my new chiropractor isn't as good. Because of these chronic headaches/migraines (I can't say they are definitley migraines as I haven't been diagnosed.) most pain med's no longer work at all. I just have learned to force myself to sleep and deal with the pain and nausesness. I would love to have something to take away my pain.

Ever tried Gatorade?

I also get headaches quite often, however, I usually bring them on myself by going too long without eating or getting too stresses out. Anyways I read about a study that had been done for headache/miagraine sufferers and they said that drinking Gatorade during the onset of a headache/ miagraine that it will go away or not become severe. Well sounded strange enough that I had to try it, and it really worked!! It doesn't matter what the flavor is just drink it. Anyways just thought I'd share.

Its funny you should mention that. I had read it somewhere too so I tried it and i think it did help sometimes. I had been told an ice cold coke might help too. But i never found that to be too effective.

I actually had a migraine appointment today. I get em about once a week, usually at work (maybe from reading too many boxer posts :)). I get nautious and have to lie down in a dark room and once in awhile I get sick. I have a lavender scented bean filled thing that goes over my eyes (got it at bath and body) and is cool to the touch and that HELPS a lot.

I'm not into taking a lot of medication, especially since I'm still nursing my son and most prescription migraine pills are a nursing level C (yeah not taking them unless I can't go to bed, then I pump & dump). Today I got Imatrex pills I have taken Zomig once (it helped but the pills are $$$$$) and I only had the one sample. If I take Excederine migraine when I very first feel it coming on it usualy subsides. Also, drinking a soda to take the meds (like Pepsi or Dr. pepper) helps.

Strange as this may sound but I have taken up yoga recently and since I started the migraines have really taken a back seat (been going for two months and only had 1-2 attacks instead of my normal 8-9 in the same time period). It also helps with back pain - there's another thread here on that topic. It's relaxing yogo not the hard stuff, more streching and head rolling, I lvoe the head rolling.
