Any Ideas for exercise

Right now there is so much snow on the ground and it is pretty cold, do any of you have ideas for exercising in the winter time? I did try to walk him on my treadmill but that was a total disaster. I do have a nice size fenced in back yard. I also play fetch with him in the house but he need something more Please help.

HI from MICHIGAN !! and yes its cold !

we walk 2 xs a day - very qiuck ( 6 blocks or so ) them play in yard till ( i am cold ) Sam has a coat on also ! but we have a play date 2 days a week with my sis's pits ( sam sleeps for a good 24 hrs after ) THEY RUN HARD (in a fenced yard )and jump n play and this keeps him content this time of year - as its to cold for me to give him enough out side time. so maybe find ur guy a play date ... easier on u ! i promise and he will sleep the entire ride home - we do alternate homes ( so non of the dogs get to "posessive " (sp)of home ) she has a male & female - sam is a male ( all fixxed )

but he did get a little beat up today - even though he didnt seem to mind as much as poor mamma did !! .... lots of porixzide n kiss's, he just looked at me like i was stupid !!

but sleeping like a baby in my lap !!!

Tessa and Tucker love the snow. We have a snowball maker and they love to play "fetch" with snow balls. They really just end up crushing them in their mouth, but they love diving through the snow to get to them. They also like chasing us on the sled out back. They race up and down the snowy hill when we're on it. When it's too cold, we have some indoor games too. They have "Num-num ball" which is an orange ball we put about a quarter cup of kibble in. It takes them about 20 minutes of rolling their balls around the house to get it all out. Not physical exercise, but a mental game and it keeps them occupied. We also have a remote controlled truck and they enjoy chasing that around. They'll never get as much exercise inside when they weather is bad outside, so we try to play short "games" more frequently so they don't get bored. Usually when it's really cold or rainy, they prefer to snooze by the fire anyway.

We're having a bit of the same problem. I take them out in the yard and run them more frequently for shorter periods. You might, also, want to check out doggy daycare. Once I get Arabella over her fear issues (she was "jumped" by 3 dogs at a dog park) it is definitely something I would do for her.

I know how you feel. I am waiting on the dog park to open back up from Christmas break so we can go

Another thing we do especially with Arabella is throw a ball or toy down the stairs while we're at the top. After about 20 trips up and down the stairs she is ready to rest a bit.

If you want something really fun to do in the winter, join an agility class!

Myles will also "help" shovel the driveway. He basically jumps and trys to catch the snow I'm tossing. He makes a bigger mess than actually helping. I know when he's too cold as he'll go stand in the garage, then I let him back in the house.

I just met a 17 wk old boxer puppy at the vet yesterday and I had to say hello. So the guy asks, when do they get used to going out in the cold... I laughed and told him my boxer was almost 5 and he won't go out!

along the same lines as the remote-control truck, the laser pointer is pretty great for indoor or outdoor exercise

I have found that extra brainwork helps tire out my 2. I add some more short training sessions when they don't get as much outdoor exercise. Right now I am working on teaching Mali "Bang" and trying to improve Oscar's heeling.
