We recently adopted a boxer from a local pound. He was about 15 to 20 pounds underweight. He came home and withing a week or two had gained about 8 pounds. He also brought a lovely case of K.C., and some serious eye boogers. He got over the KC and we gave him some penecillin for the eye infection. Now, a couple of weeks later, has lost all the weight he gained and is staggering around as if he's drunk. He also acts as if he can't hear or see very well. The soonest that the vet can get him in is first thing in the morning. Has anyone ever seen something like this? I'd very much appreciate some advice.

Well, one thing that leaps to mind is that he may have an ear infection - that could certainly affect his balance, and is quite likely after a bout of KC.

There are more serious possibilities though. Without wishing to be too depressing, here are a few threads where similar sorts of symptoms have been described. Hopefully your vet will have some good news for you tomorrow.

Thank you for the links, even though they're depressing as all get out. I sure pray that it's just an ear problem.

Given the KC and recent eye infection, I think an inner ear infection is far the most likely explanation. Do let us know how it goes tomorrow :)

Well, we just got back from the vet and we had to put Copper down. The vet says that whatever is going on in Coppers brain has shut down his hearing, sight and several other functions. Copper didn't sleep all night. He just kept turning around and around trying to find a comfortable position and crying all night. The doc recommends doing a rabies test, especially since he and Gypsy had the whole dominence issue the first day we had them and there was a bit of blood. Here's praying for negative results. Thanks for the feedback. I wish it had turned out better.
