any good books

out there, i need to start reading again, used to read for hours but things got in the way now im ready to start again, any suggestions would be helpful.

I love to read and do a lot. I love all the Nicholas Sparks books. I have read them all and they are all just as good as the next.

I am currently reading Mirror Mirror. This is a book by Gregory Maguire. His books are children stories in a different perspective. I just finished Wicked which is about the Wizard of Oz. It gives you a completely different view from the Wicked Witch of the Wests side. There is a sequial to that book and it is called Son of a Witch. Mirror Mirror is about Snow White. He has several other books as well. You should try reading these. They are interesting and great.

I just read a great book called my sisters keeper it's by jodi picoult
I really enjoyed this one and could not put it down. I was sad when it was over.
I am now reading the divinci code but it is hard for me to get into but I will keep trying.

I read a great book called The BookSeller of Kabul by Asne Seirstad. It was written by a female journalist who befriended and lived with an Afghani bookseller and his family for 6 weeks. It explores the role of women in the Afghani culture and also her own unique position as a female and an outsider within the family dynamics. It also details the bookseller's life--he maintained his bookstore through 3 decades and carried and sold many books that were banned by his government and the risks he took to preserve forbidden books. It was interesting to read of his love of literature and history and intelligence yet also to see how he was committed to the culture's "old ways" as well when it came to his family. Very intersting read.

I also read alot of David Sedaris, he's a riot! And I also just finished reading Lamb by Christopher Moore, which was pretty humorous as well. Its a very tongue-in-cheek story of Jesus' childhood as supposedly told by his best friend, "Biff"!

I LOVE Patricia Cornwall books....once I start reading them I cannot put them down!!

Oh I just got finished with "The Kite Runner" by Hosseini. I thought it was excellent. I haven't read a book that good in awhile. It's rare that books will make me cry but this book did. Go to www.barnesandnoble.com and read the summary and reviews.

I read "The Bookseller of Kabul" too and thought it was interesting. It never ceases to amaze me how different cultures can be.

For those that liked Bookseller of Kabul and Kite Runner, check out Reading Lolita in Terhan. I loved that book.
I'm slogging thru David McCullough's John Adams right now. 1776 was much more interesting. Hopefully Truman will be better, cause it's like 1000 pages (not an exageration).

read it cover to cover

I read "P.S. I love you..." by Ceclia Ahern. I read it, no kidding, cover to cover and loved it. I bought it to pass time while I was waiting in line to register my son for school.. long story. Started it at 1 in the after noon, was done late that night around 10:30ish, I'm a fast reader, but if is wasn't good, I wouldn't have read it through. Great story, really fun. Not a "serious" book by any means, but a good read.

I read Reading Lolita in Terhan as well, very good book. I haven't read The Kiterunner yet...needed a break after the first two (Lolita and Bookseller!).

Another excellent book I read a bit back was The Way We Never Were: American Families and the Nostalgia Trap. It was all about shattering the myths from the past that modern families are burdened with, such as the "Ozzie & Harriet American Family" of the 1950s and how that wasn't really the case for most families at that time, women's roles in and out of the house, family values, role of the father (or lack of) in the past and now, etc. Very eye-opening to the false vision that many fall victim to and try to live up to that never existed in the first place! I read that after reading The Culture of Fear: Why Americans Are Afraid of the Wrong Things. which is also an excellent look into society. Love it!

 

[Maxwell's Ma]

I read all of the James Patterson novels. He is so good. I am waiting for the fourth of july to come out in june. Then there is the 5th degree in the same series. I also love his Alex Cross ones. Mary Mary is still in hard book. I hate buying those cause they cost so much.
