I need some advice, I kind of think of everyone here as family so I turn to you. People know my history with the house fire last year, losing my 2 boxers, almost losing my first house, now my tyson baby is having a mass removed from his ear this now all while I got laid off my job, and now the Canadian government wants to crap me back out west to Alberta to testify in court for the second time this year! (so needless to say I have good reason to be sad) My doctor put me on Wellbutrin SR 150mg/day and all was well for the first 2 1/2 weeks, now I am almost at a month and I am starting to feel the effects... I DONT LIKE THEM! My head feels all cloudy, to the point where I dont want to drive because I lose focus, or I start only focusing on one thing (like being really really tired), I don't feel like I am acting like myself, I just feel horrible and I want to stop taking these things that are hurting me. I have been reading and a lot of people have had really bad experiences with Wellbutrin causing long term health effects like "loss of self" I cant honestly imagine living on a daily basis like this, I couldnt do it! The depression that I have has gone on for a year untreated because I know I put EVERYONE before myself, and after all the chaos last year no one stopped to ask me if I was ok, which I wasnt. My boyfriend has been with me through all this and vows not to leave my side, despite my mood going up and down like a yo-yo, I gained 20lbs since last year, and I get so irratated over stupid stuff but he keeps saying "I'm not going anywhere, I love you and I think you are more beautiful now than when I met you" (I love him dearly) I feel bad too because over the year my sex drive has gone from a typical 22 year old to maybe once every month and a bit.. my boyfriend is 20... needless to say he isnt enjoying this aspect because it is such a drastic change from when we first started dating (ie 4-6 times a day ;) ) These antidepressant are driving me crazy (maybe for real) I just want to know if anyone else has had any experiences like this and what did you do to help? I know I need to talk to someone about all my "issues" which I am addressing immediately, I dont think I have a chemical imbalance I think I am genuinely depressed (and with good reason I think)

anywho I just needed to get this out I guess..

You have a right to be depressed with all that has happened, but don't dwell on it 24/7 , talk to your boyfriend & Dr. things can always be worked out or try to let it go, we all go through hard times in our lives, but you can't let it get the best of you & the drug scripts will turn you into a Zombie, if you let it. So, please pray & seek help, all things happen for a reason & sometimes it takes something bad to happen for us to see all the good. Hang in there & I'm sending prayers your way! Hanley

Try to do some research into the different drugs available and their side effects. As they are the same class of drug, many of the side effects will be the same, though the degree to which YOU personally are affected by them will vary. Unfortunately, you will probably have to try a few different drugs before you find something that works for you--that is helps your depression and causes side effects you can live with. But be sure to tell your doctor which side effects you are most concerned with and not willing to put up with.

Have you considered talking to a therapist? Sometimes that can make a world of difference and you will find out you don't need the anti-depressants anymore (after a while).

Good luck!

Colly, my hubby is in the same boat as you. I have found the one that works for me and have been on it since 2001 which is Zoloft 50mg. I feel great on it and have no cloudy feeling or any other wierd side effects. (on a side note there were ummmm sexual side effects (sorry if tmi) but they were worth it when I finally felt better. They also went away 2 months after I was on it YAY! But hubby has been going through all different meds you name it he has been on it. He is on Zoloft right now with a mixture of concerta and cymbalta (which are used for his sleep problem-he can't stay awake). He was on Effexor and wellbutrin but he was very irritable on them. Talk to your Dr there is the one out there for you it just takes time to find it!

Take care

I feel for you hun! I went through the same thing with anti-depressants right after my father passed away. I would defiantly talk to your Dr. about trying some new meds..sometimes it takes awhile to find the one that works for you. I also agree with that someone (can't remember who..sorry!) said about talking to a therapist, I was meds for about a year, they helped but not completely. After talking to a therapist it took my about 3 months to get off the meds and I've been fine ever since. Sometimes you just need to let go of those feelings and a therapist will help you find ways to deal. Keep your head up and stay strong...things will work out for you! :)

I probably went thru every drug under the sun before I settled on Prozac. My best friend has had great results with Zoloft. I was on it for about 5 years before taking myself off 2 years ago. Depression is a medical condition-not something that's just in your head. You need the right medicine, so keep trying them until you find what works for you. I'm glad you have the support of your boyfriend.

I agree with the rest. Please talk to your doctor about trying a different med. I am a nurse who worked in a doctor's office for many years. i have seen this lots of times, one med doesn't help, but through trial and error you WILL find one that does. Good luck and hang in there

maybe drugs are not the best option for you! doctors are always to quick to ply us with drugs when some of us would do a lot better with someone who'll just listen!!!!!

Hi Colly. First...(((HUGS))) to you! No wonder you are depressed. Keep in mind that depression IS a chemical inbalance. I spent quite a while going through anti-depressent hell too, until I was put on Zoloft. I was on Prozac, Paxil and then Luvox and experienced all the side-effects everyday. I was sick to my stomach, walking in a daze, and couldn't even trust myself to "keep it together" on a simple grocery shopping outing! Finally, I was introduced to Zoloft and it has been great for me. I take 50mgs/day and there has been no side effects. You HAVE to speak to your doctor and tell him/her how you have been feeling. Mention Zoloft and see if you can at least try it for now. Anti-depressents are trial and error. Also, anti-depressents can severely affect your sex drive. With the Zoloft, I have found that my sex drive has returned to normal, much to the appreciation of my DH!! ;) You will find the right one for you. Good luck sweety and hang in there! BTW...your BF sounds like a great guy...1 in a million! Hang on to him! ;)
