Boxer Buddy
About 2 months ago, my sweet 6 1/2 year old boxer, Catfish, started limping. The first trip to the vet resulted in an Rx of Previcox and Tramadol for the pain and inflamation. After a month of meds, I took him back to the vet because the limp persisted. This time the xrays showed a tumer in his right front leg. We went to the Oncologist Thursday morning, and were going to have a biopsy done on another small lump Friday morning (before opting for the bone biopsy) per her suggestion.

When I got home from work Thursday afternoon, I took Catfish to the front yard to get some playtime in before his appointment Friday morning.
That's when things got really bad, really fast. He went to jab for his frisbee, as he always does, and managed to break the bone with the tumor in it. We rushed him to the emergency clinic where he stayed overnight. We were able (after many prayers were answered) to get him in to see a wonderful surgeon on Friday afternoon, and just yesterday he had his leg amputated. I will not get to see him until Monday, and we'll not know for a few days what the diagnosis is on the type of cancer he has.

Can anyone relate to my situation or have any advise for me? I'm just absolutely sick with what the future holds for my sweet angel Catfish. Thanks for any feedback you all have.

Jessie

Thanks very much for the support -- it's going to be long road ahead but we're gonna fight it all the way. I'm still trying to figure this whole website out and how to post pictures that aren't too big, so I hope to have more up soon.

That's the spirit! :) I am a firm believer in the power of positive thinking!

You'll soon be posting lots of pics - I had to read and re-read the help section a zillion times - but I got the hang of it eventually - and if I can do it, anyone can!

I talked to the surgeon this morning and he said Catfish is recovering very well. He even said that he's acting like he never even had that fourth leg, which makes me feel so happy. Iknow it'll be tough to see him for the first time, but knowing he's without pain will far surpass any sadness.
I can't tell you how much the support you provide means to me (and Catty, too)

Sending many hugs, kisses and healing vibes to Catfish, at the dog park we've seen quite a few dogs with only 3 legs and they run around like it's nothing, I'm not making light of it atall but hopefully your baby will adjust nicely, hugs...Kate.

Get well soon Catfish! ( i love your name!)

I am sorry to hear about Catfish's leg, but it is hard to keep a Boxer down. Knowing the breed, he will be back to his old self in no time. Get well wishes to you Catfish (and you do have an awesome name!!).
