Fancy's Allergies

I bet fancy is allergic to the dust. You can give her bendryl but check with the vet and see how much you can give her. You can also give her Clariton. I tried both with Baxter. Clariton did work for while. He is now on predisone. It is frustrating. I wouldn't take her to an allergist. I wasted $500.00. The shots made Baxter worse. Good Luck though!

gmacleod,

I actually hadn't heard about Nutro Max, we were using Nutro Natural Choice. But I have to agree with you, they're both crap. :)

I personally have gotten allergy tested myself and started my shots in December. You won't see improvement for 6-12 months. The shots' dosage is increased each time to help your body build up immunity to the allergen. So it is possible to get worse before better. IMO you may not have given it time to work out. I'm suprised the vet dermatologist did not tell you this. My dogs are getting tested in March at MSU in East Lansing. Sorry it didn't work out for you, but you may want to reconsider?

About those shots...

As for the allergy shots, I was told that you had to give it six months to a year before you started seeing improvement. After two years of not breating through my nose (at all, ever) I finally talked to my doctor and told him I'd rather just take allergy medication and stop with the shots-- they were making me tired, sick, and nauseated all the time.

I guess it's the kind of thing that works for some people/dogs, and doesn't for others. If you have the patience to see it through, try it. Otherwise look for any alternative methods you can.

Best of luck to you... I know all about the misery of allergies and hope your baby finds something.

Crap that doesn't sound good. Sorry to hear the experience didn't work out for you. Hopefully I have better luck. We'll see I guess. It helped my uncle with his allergies but as you said, every person/dog is different!

Fancy's gotten better

Fancy has gotten a lot better. We took away this blanket she started using in Nov 05 and finally she is not beat red anymore. This is a relief of stress because she was so much in pain with the itch. We did give her Atopica med, and that might of help too. So far after taking the blanket kept her normal.
