Keeroff

Completely Boxer Crazy
hello everyone :)

Keeroff has been suffering from serious skin allergies lately (or... not exactly "lately" but his condition is now worse than ever)
his symptoms are itchy skin, very very itchy paws, itchy ears, runny eyes (sometimes runny nose too) and some parts were skin has become thick and grey.

It is likely that the problem is a food allergy, which is so disapointing since Keeroff is RAW fed for 4 years (he is 4 years and 7 months old now)

Anyway, the last 1 1/2 years his diet is mainly chicken, codfish, beef, turkey(not very often), red mullet and red fish, yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, apple cider vinegar. salmon oil(not all the time)

I have decided to try an elimination trial diet, only using turkey but I have lots of concerns and questions so I was hoping Boxerworld members could help us a litle :)

1) If I give turkey wings and thighs, his poop become TOO firm, so what can I add to help him? I suppose chicken eggs will be restricted for at least 2 months, right?

2)How much salmon oil or flax seed oil can I give? 1000mg daily is OK or would 2000mg daily be better since his skin condition is so bad?

3)This kind of diet seems so incomplete... How can he be healthy eating only turkey and yogurt? No giblets, no red meat... ? Is it safe?

4)One of the vets says that Keeroff has also malassezia infection. So, do I have to stop giving Apple cider vinegar, too? I'm asking because I read a list about forbidden foods when there are yeast infections and it included ACV.

Sorry if I tired you but the situation is very hard, especially because I haven't been able to find a really competent vet that KNOWS about dermatological issues and especially allergies.. Most of them just say hello and then immediately prescribe antibiotics, cortizone and ketoconazole.

I would so much appreciate any reply to my post.

P.S. I hope my english is good enough to be understood :P :)

First off after that long on raw my guess is it is NOT allergies. I'm guessing he is exhibiting signs of a chronic disease with all his skin issues and you really should contact a good homeopath. Keep in mind for a good one you can conduct everything via phone/email.

1.) You can add turkey breast
2.) Most dogs don't do well with flax - omit that immediately. And if you really are doing an elimination diet you should eliminate EVERYTHING.
3.) The giblets, liver, etc from turkey are fine to give
4.) ACV is considered suppressive, so I would stop that immediately. If you need help with the itchy/troublesome areas, put 10 drops of Lavender essential oil into a litre of water and spray the troublesome areas - it should bring some relief without suppressing the symptoms.

Keeroff, I dealt with issues much like yours for 3 years, nothing worked. I had just started to work with a homeopath when my Torin suddenly passed. We believe he had a massive stroke or an aneurysm. Please consult with a homeopath.

Good Luck

Have you considered having a thyroid panel run (complete including a TgAA not just a basic thyroid test)?
Skin issues that mimic allergies are a symptoms of a thyroid problem. Not only hypothyroidism but thyroiditis (which need the TgAA test to determine). Add in the graying skin and well.....another possible indicator sorry to say.
If you do opt to talk about this with your vet you will more than likely have to REQUEST the TgAA as it is not oftentimes standard.
Just my 2 cents.
