Albino Boxer

Is there such thing as an albino boxer? My hubby come home saying some guy said he had an Albino boxer, is he just talking about a white boxer? When I think of Albino I think of white with blue eyes. I've never seen one! Have You all?

Blue eyes are not a trait of albinism, and are common in white boxers. Generally the whites I've seen have brown eyes or one blue eye and one brown eye, but I know two blue eyes happen sometimes.

For an albino, the eyes would be red or pink (from the blood vessels) because true albinism there is zero pigmentation. I have never heard of an albino boxer, ever. I suppose it isn't out of the realm of possibilities, but I'd be willing to bet he simply has a white boxer.

Yes, a true albino should be all white and have pink or red eyes.
I'd also bet he just has a white boxer.

Yeah my boy gets called an albino by it seems like nearly everyone. I have to ty to nicely say no he's not albino or he would't have brown eyes, a black nose and spots everywhere. He's just white, plain old white! If a boxer could ever be plain anything that is=)

Then they say, Oh he's going to die young because he's albino, doesn't he have tons of health issues, oh what a shame you got an albino!

I guess some people just don't know but when you say he's not and they insist they know more about your dog than you do and that he is, it can be frustrating.

A lot of people think White boxers are albino but they are not, they would have pink eyes if they were.

I get it all the time about my white boy - it drives me nuts

I'm sorry, don't think I'm dumb about Albino, I remember now about the pink from horses and I had a friend in elementary school that was Albino. Not thinking much right since my boxer sabastian went to Rainbow Bridge recently. That threads under collapsing. I've only seen one white boxer in my life, and she was the sweetest thing!

Oh I don't think anyone was calling you dumb at all, really. If you don't know something it's always good to ask=)

I think those of us with whites have just heard it so many times and like with me I know, I have even told people he wasn't just so they would know and they still insisted he was and started telling me I didn't even know about my own dog. That's the only time I get frustrated. I don't mind people asking but if I tell them he's not I sure don't feel like having them argue with me that he is and he's going to die soon because all albinos have health problems....

It may be possible to have an albino boxer becaue I think that is a posisbility with just about anything, but I don't know for sure. Just most of them aren't albino, just white, and blue eyes aren't uncommon in a white boxer.

And I'm very sorry for the loss of your baby. I know that must be very hard. Best wishes to you.

My Sasha is white with brown eyes....but the eyelids on top and bottom are VERY pink all the time...and sometimes appear to be almost a red color if she has played alot!! Anyone else have this with theirs?

First, just let me say I by no means think you are dumb!! Many people have asked the same question about white boxers.

Second, I am so sorry about the loss of your baby! Godspeed Sabastian!! :(

Regarding the question about pink around the eyelids, this is simply the color of the boxers skin. As they exert themselves during exercise or play they simply become flush with color so it's more noticeable. You will notice the pink skin mostly around eyes, ears, nose, etc... It's very important to keep sun block on these areas (not the eyes of course) when out in the sun for extended periods as they are more susceptible to sunburn than their fawn or brindle counterparts.
