Hi Everyone,

5 min ago i decided to wash dozers bed. It came with him when we got him, but it was new, so we didn't wash it. After 3 weeks of use - it's looking (and smelling) a bit icky....kinda smelled like a hamster cage, lol.

I checked the tag and it was 95% polyester and 5% cedar chips (ahhh - that's why it smells like a hamster cage!), the shell was removable and washable. I went to take it apart, and the zippers were zip tied together. I assumed it came that way.. I thought to myself, "hmm, must be incase your dog keeps trying to open it, lol".

I took the case off and all the bed really was without the shell was a thin polyester fabric encasing the polyester fluff and woodchips.

I went downstairs to wash it and was gone MAYBE 3 minutes. When i came back upstairs, there was Dozer, on top of his bed butt in the air (like when they are playing), he turned and looked at me and his face was COVERED in polyester fluff! It was EVERYWHERE! He had ripped open a hole the size of his head and was pulling all the fluff out!! I told him no and went to grab his bed and he must have known i was going to take it because he quickly jumped on it and tried for one last mouthful of fluff!!!

He would NOT leave it alone! I had to put it in my bedroom and close the door, and even then he followed me and as soon as I put it down he jumped on it!

What a silly guy! GOOD THING I was only downstairs for a couple minutes!!!

the whole is HUGE, but I stuffed all the fluff back in and after the shell is washed and back on, I think I WILL find a zip tie and secure the zippers!

I have been there! The zip ties are really just for shipping and I haven't had an issues with any dog unzipping a bed. The fluff everywhere with cover off, oh yeah....I have several that have duct tape in a few places. Thankfully mine have grown out of that. :)

Achilles has torn up the inner pillow of a dog bed because he learned to unzip. I was not able to zip tie it closed so i had to break the grabbing part of the zip off, just so i could stop him.

I haven't had any problems with Toby working the zipper lose on his bed/beds, he's destroyed cover, lining and looked as though he was laying on clouds with that look of what? That's not what I was supposed to do? Toby now has a blanket in his kennel until he learns thats not the proper way to enjoy his bed, lol :)

My wife gets plenty of practice time with her surgical stitching with all the toys Achilles rips. Yet oddly enough Achilles does have one stuff toy that he seems to purposely try NOT to rip. Its some weird doll that shouts "OH NO" every time you squeeze it.

LOL- I'm about to start! Dozer LOVES the toys with fluff in them - but they only last 10min! Petsmart here will let you return ANYTHING and you have 60 days - yes - this INCLUDES destroyed toys! All you have to do is bring back the biggest piece left and the receipt within 60 days and they give you store credit! We have returned SOOOOO MANY toys in the 3 weeks! (but every time I go there I end up buying something too - how can I resist - so it's actually smart of them to return those items - they probably make more sales in the long run! But it's getting annoying havig a toy for 10min then having to go back the NEXT day! So I'm going to start sewing the holes back together - I'll still return the toy with in the 60 days - but I'm hoping to prolong it's life!!!

Those are some cute pics!
Poor Morgan isn't allowed anything in her crate anymore since all she does is chew them apart and EAT the stuffing. I'm to afraid of her getting a stomach problem if she eats the stuffing, or part of towels (which she has done!) that I no longer put anything but very strong toys in her crate with her. I feel bad that she can't have anything fluffy and comfy to lay on but I rather her be safe. She has eaten a dog bed with fluff filling, towels, and part of her "baby blanket".

That's hilarious!

Yes, been there, too. I get those same dog beds at Costco. Whenever I take the covers off to wash them, I have to lock up the beds, or Diamond will tear another hole in it. We have many duct tape patches on our beds! Maybe it's something about that fluffy stuff with the cedar chips.
