Great videos! appicon Apollo is so handsome - thanks for sharing :)

Talking about videos - do you find them a handy training aid? I love using a video. Being able to look back and see what is going wrong (always the handler) is so useful. Also great in class to show other handlers what the problem is, especially if they are the type to blame the dog. It's nice as well to see what is going right :)

Thanks for sharing these videos! My daughters and I watched our first "live" agility trial over the weekend (in some nasty rain, I might add!). We've seen it on Animal Planet many times, but this is the first time we've been ringside. My older girl (age 10) was working as a pole setter to help raise funds for her 4-H club.

As I watched the dogs run, I kept thinking how much fun this looks and how my Bongo would enjoy it. He's only 11 months, so I know I need to wait a bit before starting him in agility. He's earned his CGC, and we begin our beginning obedience class this Thursday.

So, your videos of Apollo have really inspired me! I can't wait until we're ready for agility!!!

Thanks everyone

We just love agility!

Kelly, Apollo will be 2 on June 19th. He started classes at around 10 months, but didn't start full sized obstacles until he was over a year and full sized jumps until even later.

Sharon, I love having videos! And it would be pretty embarassing to say how much I watch/analyze them. I only get them at trials but I would love to have them during a class too. In class I once tried to set up my camcorder on a tri-pod to record, but it didn't work very well because some of it was too close and some of it was too far away so I you really got was the stuff right in the middle of the field. You really need a person taping, and it's hard to find someone to sit through a 1 1/2 hour class to do it (my BF certainly won't!)

Barb, I didn't know you stopped agility! You and Lara were doing so well! Do you think you'll be able to ever get back to it?

I certainly hope we can get back to it, but how that's going to happen I'm not sure.
We broke ties with our training club when there were accusations of them mistreating my dogs while they were in daycare.
There were a few other things going wrong with them too. Classes were becoming disorganized and frustrating. Sometimes we'd only get two runs in, with an hour in between each. They'd mix levels too, which personally I don't think makes for a very good class. I don't know if you remember me posting about this awhile ago, but Lara picked up an aversion to strangers touching her when one of the instructors reached down, grabbed her by the collar and tried forcing her through the tire. Lara had the courtesy to growl at that instructor, and we were never treated quite the same again.
There is no one else in our immediate area teaching agility. One of my former instructors (the good one) has a full set of equipment at her home, but seeing as I'm 33 weeks pregnant I don't think I'll be running (excuse me...waddling!) around an agility course anytime soon! If I'm very, very lucky I might get over there by the end of August.
In the meantime, my bored dogs eat their kongs and wrassle and do their usual doggy stuff. It's the life of Riley for them! The other day I set up some pylons and makeshift jumps in the yard for Lara, and was impressed by how much she remembered. Wilson didn't remember a thing, but then again he only had one class, and not with me.
Time will tell, I guess! I'll just have to be patient, and look for opportunities to do agility in the future.

You two keep up the good work! It's inspiring!
