for a natural solution I use Bicarbonate Soda to help eliminate odors... I have little packets of it opened up every where & hidden in vases & behind photos, it also helps eliminate some damp as well.

But if the odor is really offensive I use scented potpurri & pludg ins too.

I found that laminate was alot more friendly for our furbabies than what the tiles were as well, it doesnt seem to be as cold & hard for the dogs in winter...(it's still cold but not as bone shattering cold as the tiles)

FOR YOUR HOME The glade scented plugin fans work great or charcoal minus the chemicals are suppose to absorb odors if you can find a place to hide it. FOR YOUR DOG I bath my boxer every 2 wks with Pearls Au Lait shampoo or you can use any shampoo with oatmeal. You can also purchase a spray on conditioner that is good for the coat and skin. I also use wipes but I use baby wipes they do the same thing as those expensive wipes in the pet stores. The most important thing you can do for your dog is purchase a good quality dog food (Jake eats Nutro). This is great for your dogs skin and coat and prevents skin allergies. Good luck. I hope you can solve your problem. I am also very sensitive to smells.

Ditch the carpet if possible

We've also recently replaced most of our carpet with laminate flooring....it was the best thing we ever did! I don't get any more doggy smells in the house like I did when we had carpet (which was off-white (yuk) by the way!).
I rarely need to turn on the plug-in either...and it's never for a doggy smell.

I agree with some of the others....if this is an option for you, go for it...you won't regret it! My guys don't actually slip on it either like I thought they would!

scratches on wooden floors

do you find that boxers scratch up wood floors at all? just wondering... also what is your preference on either clipping or filing their claws... thanks for the input...

Hi there , I do have scratches on the floor mainly from where hes tried to flip up his toys etc. but because its a stripped and varnished floor it just looks like part of the aging process (The house is over 100 years old) But really its not that bad and if itdid get bad icould always sand it again any way.
I suspect the laminate floors could look scratched from a boxers powerful claws but Id replace my pain in the bottom carpet with it if I had the chance.
I know some one who has a big dog and wooden floors but there not varnished just wax polished and that keeps them very busy!!!
I used an extremly hard wearing floor varnish and gave 4 good coats. Im happy with it any way...just 1 more room to go.

male vs. female smells

Has anyone ever noticed a difference in the body odor of male vs. female dogs? Or a difference in adult vs. puppy smells? Our 6 mo. female has a much more distinct doggie odor than our 3 yo. male. I was just curious b/c our house didn't really smell like dog until the addition of our lil' Lollipop. I thought part of the odor could be attributed to her, but the more likely scenario is that twice the dogs = twice the odor. Thanks for any comments.

Hmmm dont know about that one. Buster has usually got 3 smells: the sweaty sock smell when he lays infront of the radiator all night.
The gas smell from chicken dinners.
And lastly the wet dog smell.
