Hello.

I have a question and I've searched and searched and seem to have no luck finding anything close to what I'm looking for. I am wondering how I would go about finding the animal/pet/dog limit for a certain town/county/state? I am sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question. I am living with my parents and a few siblings and we have 3 dogs between us, although only one myself. My boyfriend and I broke up a while ago, and he let the boxers we had while we were together have puppies. I was not in favor of this but, now that we are no longer together and I can no longer see our boxers due to the distance between us, I would at least like one of the puppies from the dogs I love. If anyone has any information on how I could look up the pet limit laws in California (I'm not sure if they are state/county/city regulated or whatnot), I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for your help.

I would just call your local town hall. Not all municipalities post these things. Another option might be to call the closest SPCA or animal rescue group.

It’s usually regulated by the city. Check with your city’s local animal control as they are the people who license dogs and enforce the limits.

I found info about my city on Google actually. The limit is per household, not per person. So for example, you can have a maximum of 3 dogs per house in my city and a maximum of 10 pets. They also let you know what you can't have as a pet. No pigs or goats for me :D If you can't get it off google, then a quick call should do it. I basically searched (town name + maximum number of dogs).

Every city has it's own regulations. One suggestion---Don't tell them your name or address when you call.

Do you think I have a problem with these regulations? ;)

It also depends on if you live in an unincorporated area. My city's limit is 3 (dogs/cats). However, I live in an unincorporated area of my city and my county's limit is 4 (dogs/cats) total together. So I can have 4 total - not like my husband will ever let that happen ;)

I live in Sacramento County, CA and one household cannot have more that 4 dogs without having a kennel license. And you have to have to proper "facilities" to house the dogs as well. I believe that it is regulated by county in California so you might want to call the office of the county you are planning on moving to. The local Humane Society would be another good place to start too, as they regulate things as well.

Good luck!!
