Hi
Well I can tell you how I trained Copper with it. First I went to Michaels craft store and bought a medium sized bell. I took 8 inches of stiff wire and screwed it into the trim, low, next to my door. Then I threaded the bell on and twisted the end of the wire to secure the bell. Then I arched the wire so the bell swung freely.
Next I brought Copper to the door and rung the bell with his foot and let him out while acting like I just won the lottery...it's really comical the way he looked when I acted like this, but he really liked it. I did this about 15 times in row, praising and giving treats everytime. I didn't take him off the porch outside...I just kept it quick and simple for the first times. I know some people would say take him to his potty spot but I didn't see the need.
Anyway, so that evening Copper, I believe accidentally, bumped the bell, I jumped up quick and took him outside all the way to his potty spot. The next day I watched him intentionally ring it. Within that week it was a done deal...since then he rings the bell like a champ. You will learn when it is a play ring or a bathroom ring. When Copper wants to play he hits the bell and walks around the house. When he has to go potty he rings the bell like its a punching bag, very fast and hard, with whimpers. It's the best thing since sliced white bread. Your friends will thinks its the coolest thing as well. Hope you give it a try, I know you will be very pleased!!!!!
