Hi

Well I can tell you how I trained Copper with it. First I went to Michaels craft store and bought a medium sized bell. I took 8 inches of stiff wire and screwed it into the trim, low, next to my door. Then I threaded the bell on and twisted the end of the wire to secure the bell. Then I arched the wire so the bell swung freely.
Next I brought Copper to the door and rung the bell with his foot and let him out while acting like I just won the lottery...it's really comical the way he looked when I acted like this, but he really liked it. I did this about 15 times in row, praising and giving treats everytime. I didn't take him off the porch outside...I just kept it quick and simple for the first times. I know some people would say take him to his potty spot but I didn't see the need.
Anyway, so that evening Copper, I believe accidentally, bumped the bell, I jumped up quick and took him outside all the way to his potty spot. The next day I watched him intentionally ring it. Within that week it was a done deal...since then he rings the bell like a champ. You will learn when it is a play ring or a bathroom ring. When Copper wants to play he hits the bell and walks around the house. When he has to go potty he rings the bell like its a punching bag, very fast and hard, with whimpers. It's the best thing since sliced white bread. Your friends will thinks its the coolest thing as well. Hope you give it a try, I know you will be very pleased!!!!!

Ok, I already mentioned bell training but, I'm really interested as to why people still struggle with house training the old way. I swear Copper was exactly the same...three or four days accident free then bam...back to square one. It took him a very shot time to learn what the bell ment. If you havent tried it please do...Copper never had another accident...yes it may get a little fustrating when they ring it to go out and play but, those times are not very often. Please give it a try!

Hey Copper,
I must not have been clear in my other posts. We are using bell training with Sascha. And it works great *most* of the time...she knows exactly what it means, and will ring it consistently whenever she has to do her business, about four days out of five...but that fifth day, she just completely ignores it, like its not even there. So it's not that I'm struggling the old way. :)

I too am interested in bell training. Please help. Our Rosey is 13 weeks and we have her blocked off in the kitchen. I feel like I am always cleaning up pee. I would love some info.

Well if it makes you feel any better just yesterday I was bragging about how well Piper has been doing with her bell training and just as I was telling my freind she peed on the carpet. She looked right at as if to say "I'm peeing like a good girl see". Just try to be patient, as hard as it may seem, but it will pay off in the end.
