hi all

on Saturday night i babysat 3 kids - 11, 7 & 3.5yrs - by myself while hubby went to see a band with his best mate and his wife (parents of kids) when i said he could go - that i didn't mind i mustn't have beening thinking straight 3 kids and 2 excited dogs (stupid women i am). anyway both my boxers love kids (hubby and i don't have any yet) my question to everyone who has kids and boxers is if they live in the same house all the time do they ever stop being so excited and learn to leave the kids alone??

the poor kids where shadowed everywhere they went, bounced on, licked over and over again, when they went to sleep (they slept on camp beds in lounge room watching star wars) the dogs licked them to death walked all over their beds, totally ignored what mummy was saying, now they calmed down and went to sleep but if the kids moved the dogs were up checking they were ok with kisses- they also went into protect mummy & kids mode the slightest noise set them off, this checking on them went on all night - i didn't get much sleep at all chasing the dogs away from the kids and back to bed in our room - i said to hubby we a going to buy a baby gate so i can block off the room the kids sleep in but just wondered how they will be with our kids when they arrive (going to our 2nd ivf attemp tomorrow so hopefully it will work fingers crossed)

the good thing is i know they love kids which is great & they really are quite good most of the time.

hi, i dont have kids but a watch my niece (21 months) for a couple of days every week for about 12 hours a day so my sister can go to work and im afraid my dileas (18 months) does not let up. i dont know whos worse, they follow each other everywhere! if i move they are both behind me, even when i go to the toilet. if my niece sleeps then dileas will sleep but the slightest movement and thats that over. they get on so well together, its a joy to watch. dileas is so gentle with her and they just adore each other although its full on. dileas is always up for playing with anybody anytime!

Personally, I think it all settles down when either #1, the boxer/s gets older, or #2, the kids move out! :p My skin kids are 18, 13 & 4. They and Spirit (16mth male) can make me want to drink some days! They are constant going concerns! Then Xena, (8 1/2yr female), on the other hand is way more quiet, laid-back...well, just lazy! The kids use her for a pillow or a loyal confidant, "keeper of all secrets", when THEY are being quiet, laidback and or lazy (and of course when Spirit is having "quite time in his crate, usually at mom's insistance!)!
Spirit will not leave the kids alone. He is forever sticking his nose in to see what they are up to, is always challenging them to a "boxing match" or game of "catch me if you can", or whacking a rope upside their heads, or even goosing them with his cuz ball, that has become almost a permanent facial feature on him!. In fact, the kids will now "charge him up" when he is resting. When I ask them why they MUST do that, they usally reply, "just seeing how he likes it..to be bugged when he's relaxing"! Seems he doesn't mind a bit because he can go from a sound snore, to a full blown boxer burn in 2.2 seconds!
I'm pretty darn sure my 4yr old will still be here by the time Spirit ages, but I may be a drunken old woman who's ready to move out myself by then! Nawww..just kidding! ;) I love the excitement of it all and I especially love to see the bond between the kiddies, fur and skin! Gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside! :D

My reply is to say Yes ,and no...Ha Ha just to confuse you!
Basicaly , I find that when the kids are not at school I have to tell both skin and fur off. Its a bit like this " Leave the dog alone, stop running youre making him chase you."
"Buster, leave them alone you will trip them up" etc

I think that just being the "incharge " adult helps a lot i.e always keep an eye on them and when the dog is shadowing , step in to resolve. I also shut Bust in one room while the kids play in another or just tell him to stay in his bed for a bit , just so he gets used to laying down and minding his own for a bit when the kids are about. Ive found that being consistant is the key.
A small problem Ive had with Bust is that if Im in another room, He'll go to my 6 year old to be let out for a wee or something and she hates being woo wood at.
Or he'll try and lay on the sofa with her which he is not allowed!

Oh, I hear that!

I have 2 1/2 yr old and 3 1/2 month old boxers, and a 1 year old son. Nestle (the older boxer) has let up on Cole a lot as she is getting a little more mature. They climb on each other but also respect each other; well, Nestle respects Cole and we are working on Cole. lol. Porter on the other hand is ALL OVER Cole and Cole is as annoying as Porter. They are my 2 little monster boys. Porter and Cole insist on sharing a bottle and Pacifier too. They climb on each other and Porter MUST bath Cole in boxer kisses. I find them equally annoying to each other ALL the time.

Boxers must be involved in all family affairs at all times. And God forbid I sit on the floor, I have all 3 of them climbing on me in seconds, barking, crying laughing and woo wooing all at once.

What everyone else has said. Our Leesha just has to be next to one of my kids at all times. My son is the petter and my daughter is the hugger and pillow companion. Whenever my hubby is play wrestling with the kids, she has to be right smack in the middle. And when they are outside, she is constantly watching everything to make sure that no one is going to try and hurt them.

boxers and kids

I have 2 1/2 year old twins and at first the babies were all over Maddox and now everyone lives in perfect harmony :) sometimes they play for hours and sometimes I think the three of them forget that the others exist.
PS Good luck on the IVF we got our b/g twins on our second attempt.

We usually have to tell the kids to leave poor Chloe alone :) Chloe definitely thinks she is one of the kids, and she does like to check on her "peeps" quite often, and will walk around looking for them when they aren't there. It's so cute.

My Bailey is a KID HOG!!! My niece's And nephews come down all the time.
Our dogs cant get enough of the kids. I dont have any yet (kids) Just my dogs. Bay is up my butt all day long but when the kids come in she could care less about me. All she wants to do is play. She wont let my niece go out of the room. She does all the babysiting for me. Really makes me feel safe.LOL
We have a sex offender that lives a few block away from us and I kinda gets scary around here. But If she goes outside we all do but just seeing my dog with her might make someone think twice about messing with her. Wow im rambling. They are very good dogs with the kids that come around here.
Only problem is they dont really like her KISSES how can you not? Have fun!!!
