Here it is, no matter what we try Oscar remains a bad boy on his lease. I saw a post that someone else wrote and it reminded me to ask. he just pulls me all over. He is not as bad with my husband because he is much stronger than me but even he gets pulled a little. We have tried a choker chain and that doesn't even phase him...he just keeps pulling until he is grunting becuase the collar/choker chain is pulling so tightly. Do you think a pronged collar would work or, like we had talked about, getting one of those collars that has a remote control and when they get to pull too much you just push a button and it send a little shock to the collar? Has anyone ever used one of these? It sounds kind of cruel but, at this point, we've got to do what ever will work. Spring is almost here and we want to be able to take him everywhere with us but we can't if we are unable to control him. Please help!

I worked with sort of a strange fellow who used a shock collar, he said he tried it on himself first
Well, I guess it wasn't that bad  because he did use it on his dog.

I had to resort to a prong collar for my oldest girl Nikki. She was obnoxious and with obedience training, she did not turn out miraculous, but the stinker will not pull with the prong on but if I take her for a walk with a regular collar, it is..ack, cough, gag, wweeaach.. all the way..I am sure you know the noises I am trying to spell out.

They also sold rubber tips for the prongs, but I thought that might pull her fur out.

It takes two to pull. Don't let him do it. There have been a number of previous threads on the same topic with some excellent suggestions. Look under the training forum or do a search on pulling.

Good luck,

Please, Please do not try a shock collar. If not used properly they can cause ALOT of problems. You boxer could get scared and take off or he can get mean. You could try a prong collar but I have not had much luck with them. I wouls recomend a hlati or a control harness. I know people that have had very good resluts with both. A halti is a harness but it goes up around the muzzel and it revents them from pulling. However it is not a muzzel in anyway, they can still open their mouth and pant so their is no danger with them. Next week I will be starting Obediance classes agagin and will be using a halti myself so I could give you more info about them then. But please do NOT use the shock collar.

Things will work out in the end! Just keep the chin up!

Well, we still have some issues with our Dallas on her leash as well, but things are looking up. Does your dog know the sit command? Well, my husband tried this out when we started walking her and it took very well 3 months for her to obey (long time- isn't it?). I got very frustrated, but with my hubby's help Dallas is now doing great on the leash.:)
He did this: Every time Dallas started pulling he would hold the leash tight pull her back to him saying her name and told her firmly in the face to SIT. Every time she pulled he did this and believe me we have had many hours of walking because this takes some time for 1 block. Everyone stared at us and I saw people laughing, but my husband kept saying to me "I do not care what these people think. I will have a great dog on this leash if I have to walk 10 hours around the block!" He is so patient. Well, now after the 3 months of exercising this issue she now walks better, but there are days when she sees a bunny running by and there she goes to get it. But all in all she does good outside. We get compliments on how she is outside now rather than before. Now when I walk her and she pulls me I draw that leash back and say Dallas and she automatically sits :D !
My little 5 yr old girl can even walk her now. Great luck on your walking journey. Rest up- you'll need it

Oh yeah, I agree with everyone else on that shock collar. I have seen a lot of dogs to afraid to even put on a collar and run from it through fright. I do like that idea of a full body harness too. That basically gives you more control over them. I think I might use that one too!:)

A lot of petting and good kisses or even a treat outside when they are good - goes a long way!!!!!:D

Gentle Leader (a brand of collar) worked wonders with Oscar. It looks much like the Halti collar (kind of like a horse halter/bridle). If you decide to purchase one, have an experienced person show you how to fit the collar on the dog and how to properly use it. It worked on Oscar within five minutes (he looked like a bucking bronco at first). When he has a regular collar on now, he doesn't pull. We're working on the heel command but I can see that he has improved greatly from using the Gentle Leader. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
