Kinda long.. sorry
We probably ended up with about 17-18" of snow here at our house. I took more pics and updated my little snow page :D
According to the local news station, the biggest amount of local snowfall was Trotwood with 22"
I braved the snow and went to work. We need the money so I didn't want to call off and we were having our holiday dinner there. I didn't want to miss the food
7 of us showed up, 5 were awol. We went in early so we could eat and then get to work. I ended up working over 6 hours (I normally work 4) because the drivers were running late. I left work around 1:10am. Took me 10mins to get out of the parking lot. Back up, go forward, back up, go forward..
I did 25mph all the way home.. well.. as close to home as my car would let me go anyway. About halfway home I noticed my windshield wipers were slowing down. 2 of our drivers had lost their wipers earlier in the night and had to either hitch rides with other drivers or use different cars. A few minutes later I noticed the lights on the inside were dimming a bit, then I noticed my battery light was on. Lovely! I call hubby and tell him my battery light is on.. he thinks maybe the belts are caked with snow and stuff and tells me to pull into a gas station and see if I can see anything (My battery is located in the front passenger side wheel well, lovely huh?). So I pull in and clear as much gunked up snow as I can and leave. I got about a mile or two down the road and turned onto another road and had to plow through a bunch of snow.. that killed it. The lights dimmed even more. I got about a half mile down and it started sputtering and then finally died. In the middle of a main road.. I'm dead.
After a few minutes I got out and a very nice man in a truck stopped and asked if I was ok. Crying.. I said NO.. :o he got out and popped the hood and told me that my alternator belt was GONE. I ran on pure battery charge for at least 10-15mins until it died. He told me I was lucky to get as far as I did. A Bronco stopped and we found the tow hook under my car and towed my car into a Post Office parking lot. The 1st guy that stopped ended up giving me a ride home (I was about 5 miles from home, my work is about 20 miles away). By the time I got home, it was 3am!
I called that Post Office today and explained to them what happened and asked them not to tow my car away. I can't even get a tow truck to it until tomorrow. They took down my name and number and said they'd call me if there were any problems but it should be ok.
So I now get to fix my car in this cold and snow. If I wouldn't have gone to work, this wouldn't have happened. But if I didn't go to work, I wouldn't have gotten an extra 2 hours to help make up for not being able to go in tonight... so which is the lesser of 2 evils here?
Hope everyone enjoys the pics :D
