9 years since having a puppy.. Things forgotten

It has been nine years since we have had a puppy. Oh my the things I forgot about puppies, both good and bad.

• How fast they learn Eli can already sit and lay down
• How many times they need to potty
• The amount of toys they require
• You can't cook dinner and watch a puppy
• you cant go to the bathroom alone, well thats with any Boxer
• Every single thing is so interesting it must be put in mouth
• They help mend a grie stricken heart

George must have lead us to Eli because he is just what we needed

What things did you "forget"

We too have had to "re-learn" over the last year. Like....how sneaky and quick they are as a pup. How they love, love, love the garbage. How they have two speeds..Wide Open and Asleep. How quickly they grow. How it feels to get "dove on" at full speed vs. how it felt 12 yrs ago (ouch). And finally, how quickly they get us wrapped around their big paws and make us fall in love all over again.

Amen! The same with my Caigirl - I know she sent me Suki. My little pup is handful -- I agree with all of the above! But when she lowers her head and shakes in her crate because she is mad at me for not letting her out IMMEDIATELY! Or when she cries in her sleep and runs races...or licks my legs right out of the shower, I know my Cai is still around. And who can resist those beautiful boxer eyes of innocence when they just want to be snuggled and treated like a 5 lb. lap dog?

Oh you bring tears to my eyes. I hope to have my new "blessing" the first week of April. He was born 2/2/10 I can't wait for all the puppy stuff. How every leaf in the yard is an enemy and an adventure. The first time he will actually "cock" his leg and be a big boy. Blessing will abound. I am glad you have yours.

We will be getting our first puppy in a very, very long time in 2 more weeks, so I'm sure we will have lots of things coming back to us as well! We are excited but also know it isn't going to be all fun and games.

Yes I totally agree with all your points. I too have a new pup after 12 years. I forgot everything. I know my Ginger sent Lily to me too. It is interesting watching their personality develop. Lily was so quiet and shy when we brought her home at 11 weeks. Now at 8 months, she is so not quiet and shy. Congrats on the new pup Maniago!

We were in the same boat when we got Coop. Killian was almost ten when he passed so it had been a long while since we had raised a pup.
I hear you on the fixing dinner thing. I would keep Coop gated into the kitchen with me and would trip over him a million times while trying to maneuver about the kitchen. I also remember the time he pooped right behind me while I was cooking at the stove and stepped back right into the poo.

I am particularly getting exasperated with the amount of things Bowser wants to put in his mouth myself... although it is cute to watch him chase leaves around.
