My little boy is almost 5 months old and 51 pounds. Is that too big already. He is tall and skinny and lots of people think he is underweight. His dad was 80 pounds and mom was only 55. Should i worry about this? He is healing up from red mange and still had rapid growth through all that mess. Sometimes i think he is going to be huge. No one ever believes that he is 5 months. So i figure i would ask you guys if this was strange...

He's purty big! I say that because my Mack is a big boy and was a big puppy - at 5 months he was 45 lbs.
As long as he's lanky, I wouldn't worry about it. Please don't try to "bulk him up" though - he's much better off being on the thin, lanky side.

i would never try to bulk him up. i know he will fill out on his own. that is actually a scary thing to think about, because he believes he is a lap dog.

Gotta love those huge lap dogs!
I would say your boy is going to be big!!!!! My Cisco is 6 months and weighs 45 lbs.
I had to check out your gallery, he's a cutie!!!!! lovicon

He sure does sound like a big boy! :) he probably just had a growth spurt, i wouldn't worry too much. Boxers go throuhg lots of growth phases... some phases where their growth looks as if its stagnated, and others where it looks like they grow inches everyday. As long as he's eating, playing and doing all the normal healthy pup, i wouldn't worry. :D

ps. Any new pix of the pupper?

Oh, He Is So Cute!!!!

I would not worry about the weight, he may slow down after a bit, or may turn out to be a big boy!!!! Rocky was 55 lbs at that age, but then he started to slow down some, and is now around 90 lbs. His brother, Saddam, was always on the lighter side, and tops the scale at 85 lbs. Casey, my female, was only 50 lbs. full grown, but Rusty, after 4 years, fully spread out, gaining bulk and muscle. He is 100 lbs today, and is 9 years old. Let him grow!!! Oh, mine are all lap dogs too. Rocky, at 90 lbs, crawled up in the chair with me yesterday, needless to say there was not much room. Boxers all vary, I have seen many boxers taller than Rusty, but not as square, it does not sound like there is any problem, just that your boy is going to be big!!!!! He is such a cutie, and even if he tops out at 100 lbs, he will still be your lap dog!!!!!

I wouldn't worry that he's too big or too skinny...our 5 month old weighs 50 lbs also and is almost 21"...he doesn't look too skinny at all..in fact, he has really started to fill out nicely (looks muscular)...we switched from Chicken Soup to Canidae about a month ago and it seems to be doing wonders for his hair and has even helped to fill him out...what kibble do you feed your baby?

i just switched him from nutro ultra to california natural. he may have some food allergies and it was recommended by my vet to switch him over. it doesnt have too much in it and people say its real good for dogs.
