Hey all, I just wanted to update you all on our seizure problem. Our pups are now 13 weeks old.
Truvie has had a total of 3 seizures. They were a week or more apart and she has not had one in 10 days. It seem as though she's going to be fine. She had 2 sets of blood tests, they were normal except that she was slightly enemic. She's growing normally, playing fine, and eating good.
Maddy has had roughly 12 seizures. I have a log of them at home but I don't remember the exact count. She started having 1 a day, then started progressing to 2 a day, and finally 3 in a day. They are pretty mild seizures and she usually comes out of it in 1 to 3 minutes followed by a 3-5 minute period of "looking drunk" then she is totally back to normal. Wednesday morning she had a seizure and she didn't come out of it and had to be rushed to the vet. She was given Valium and she finally came out of it. The vet kept her for the day, and ran a bile acid test which came back normal. She didn't have any more seizures while at the vet. We started phenobarbital that night. As soon as we walked through the door she had another seizure, and then another one at 1:00 am the next day.
Yesterday she did okay until 11:00 last night, she had another seizure and wouldn't come out of it so we took her to the vet and they had to give her valium again to get it under control. They kept her overnight and all day today. They increased the dosage of phenobarbital. They drew more blood to be sent off for more specific testing. I don't remember the names of the test. I won't find out the results until next week.
3 days ago she started "head bobbing", which was only happening after her seizures but now she has one that is almost constant.
I will be picking her up after work today and I'm so worried because I know as soon as we walk through the door she's going to have another seizure.
If the tests come back normal next week and she's still having seizures we will be going to OSU to get a cat scan, and possibly an EKG/EEG or whatever it's called.
I have scoured the internet trying to find answers and there is just so much information that I'm overwhelmed.
If any of your dogs have/are having seizures, please tell me what the diagnosis was.
The pups cannot get to any chemicals.
Our yard does not have chemicals on it.
We started feeding them hypoallergenic dog food on Wednesday.
We use pet safe cleaning products on the carpet and have avoided using any other chemicals in the house. We even use hypoallergenic detergent to wash our clothes and their bedding.
We removed a plant from the backyard believed to be toxic to dogs 2 weeks ago.
Food allergy?
Grass allergy?
Vaccination reaction?
Heart defect?
Brain defect?
Diabetes?
I'm so lost.
Thanks,
Ki
