To give me piece of mind, I always wait a few minutes far enough away from the dog park to not attract attention, but close enough to see and observe what is going on and which dogs are there that day. I keep my dog on leash so I can decide if we go in or not. Also unless I know all of the dogs there, I keep her on leash until I check with the other owners that everyone is okay with her style of playing. Our parks are pretty small so it is easy to do this and to me it is just common courtsey.
