Our Hannah was not yet 4 when she passed away from a heart attack on Friday, June 29. We always knew she would probably go this way because she had a Sub-Valvular Aortic Stenosis. We thought we were managing her disorder pretty well with a cardiologist and regular medication but she collasped...
I agree that you should get this pup to a cardiologist. Especially if the vet believes they are hearing a grade 2 murmur at this age. My Hannah had an innocent murmur at 8 weeks, a grade 1-2 at 12 weeks and a grade 4 at 18 weeks. After seeing a cardiologist we know she has subvalvular aortic...
We used vitamin E per our vet because it would not cause our dog problems if she licked it off. I don't think vaseline would be a good thing to be ingesting. Just my 2 cents. :)
My last dog Brittany started getting a very rough, dry nose in her later years. I cannot remember what the condition is but is it a nuisance more than anything. We had to watch it for infection but it never bothered her. At one point the vet did remove the excess skin (it was dry and flaky)...
If you find the name please let me know. Our vet already knows about the risks of Acepromazine. He is great with boxers and is very well respected in the area. I would never go to anyone else. :)
AngieK, your furbaby's story sounds so similar to Hannah's. Hannah has a grade 4 murmor along with the SAS. Our cardiologist has her on Atenelol also but did say he wants here spayed as quickly as possible. Right now, she is only at a slight increased risk for anesthesia. Our vet is going to...
SAS is short for subvalvular aortic stenosis which is a congentital heart disorder. Hannah is healthy in every other way. The cardiologist recommended that we do not change her diet at this point. Thanks for your thoughts!
Hannah Update
Well, Hannah has SAS which is on the mild side of severe. We have her on a beta blocker to reduce the pressure leaving her heart and do not have any plans for surgery at this time. We are hoping that we can get her to a year old without the lesions growing any bigger. If we...
My husband and I rented this movie just because there was a boxer in it. We laughed so hard when Wilson is asking for cookies! :) Every boxer I have ever known has acted the same way!
If Maddy was having an allergic reaction, Benadryl might help her. Sounds like those lumps were hives. You did not say what tablets the vet gave you but if you are camping this weekend, you may want to take some Benadryl along. My vet told me that the dosage is 1mg per pound every 8 hours for...
I'm glad he is doing better. :) It is scary when their faces swell up!
In case the vet did not tell you, the hives could stay around for awhile or go away and then reappear. Hannah is still getting them on her ears since whatever bit her is not through with her yet. Benadryl is helping...
My first dog came from what I would probably now consider a BYB. He had all the AKC papers in order but I do not remember if he had any health testing done. Be that as it may, Brittany was a great companion who had relatively few health problems (3 small cancerous tumors removed but no heart...
