Hannah Update

Well, Hannah has SAS which is on the mild side of severe. We have her on a beta blocker to reduce the pressure leaving her heart and do not have any plans for surgery at this time. We are hoping that we can get her to a year old without the lesions growing any bigger. If we can, she probably won't get worse.

The cardiologist does not know how long she will live. Good things are her heart is still at normal size, her level of activity is fine and she does not have fainting spells. He said she could live 1 year, 6 years, 12 years; there is no way to predict.

So, we are not supposed to limit her activity (as if you could get a boxer pup to slow down.) But, we are are too make sure she can rest if she needs to. As long as nothing changes, she will go back to the cardiologist in 3 months to be re-evaluated.

Keep the good thoughts flowing Hannah's way. Thanks!

Sorry to hear about the SAS. I have a 2yr old female that has a grade 5.5 to 6.0 Murmer and SAS. She had a puppy murmur of 1 to 2 at 10wks then she had her ears cropped which went great but we took her at 6months to get spayed and the vet called and said he couldn't do it that her murmer got much worse since she had last been there. We did the whole cardiologist thing too. She is on Altenolol daily. We don't restrict her in the house or when she is in the yard. But he told us not to encourage exercise as far as playing fetch outside for 30 min etc. so she has her little 10/15min out in the yard and runs around and plays like a nut in the house with her toys. She has in the last 3months started to faint after she does a boxer burn around the yard, so we try to stop it when she starts but sometimes you just can't.
You would never know she has a problem by looking at her she still acts like a puppy. Our Doctor's philosophy was let her be a dog and enjoy what time she has with us. So we are doing that and she is a HAPPY SPOILED ROTTEN QUEEN B.

SAS is short for subvalvular aortic stenosis which is a congentital heart disorder. Hannah is healthy in every other way. The cardiologist recommended that we do not change her diet at this point. Thanks for your thoughts!

AngieK, your furbaby's story sounds so similar to Hannah's. Hannah has a grade 4 murmor along with the SAS. Our cardiologist has her on Atenelol also but did say he wants here spayed as quickly as possible. Right now, she is only at a slight increased risk for anesthesia. Our vet is going to see her tomorrow to check her pressure so we know if we need to increase her medication. Next week we will have her spayed. Good luck to you and your girl.

If you find the name please let me know. Our vet already knows about the risks of Acepromazine. He is great with boxers and is very well respected in the area. I would never go to anyone else. :)
