Zits?

alright,you probably dont remember me but i am Pogo. My boxer apollo has these huge zits on his mouth by were the flabby skin is. I want to know, is this normal? IT is the first time ive seen these in a dog. Please offer any information on this.

Yes it is normal...Domino had them till he was about 1 1/2 yrs old then he just stopped getting them. It reminded me of him going through the "young years" I would use seabreeze on them and tried to keep his muzzle really clean. He doesnt have them anymore but they were nasty!:eek:

Dayla used to get them all the time...we switched her to a stainless steal bowl to eat out of...and the zits have not returned.

Try that...guarentee it will help

My first boxer Lilly would get zits. I know this sounds gross but I would just pop them and clean up the area. The zits had the foulest smell but if you keep the area clean they should deminish. Getting a stainless steal bowl is a good idea because bacteria can not hide as easily as in plastic bowls. Good luck!

HI! Max is nine months and gets zits too. What I do now is (this sounds silly and my husband laughs at me) after he eats, I wash is face because he always has food stuck in his sweet floopy gowls. Also, when they appear, I use tea tree oil (he has very sensitive skin) and they go wasy within days! Denise

Molly is 2 and always had zits as a puppy and would still get them if we hadn't changed her food. We had her on a beef based food and were feeding her in a stainless steel bowl. We cleaned it every night and always used aloe based baby wipes on her face. But still the zits remained. I did a little research and found that some dogs have food allergies that can cause outbreaks. We switched her to a lamb based food and poof no more zits.

It is pretty normal. Diva used to not only get zits, but bad acne when she was a puppy - right up until she was nearly two years old. She hasn't had any since then. Monty has never had zits though.

To this day after every meal (morning and evening) I wash Diva's face with a face cloth. :D Yes, I know it sounds daft! The face cloth is only for this purpose and isn't used for anything else. Besides anything else Diva is such a messy eater that it also saves the floors, the walls, the furniture, bedding, my clothes etc! :D

A couple months ago, I noticed that Rocco had what appeared to be pimples on the inside of his legs and the surrounding area. They went away without doing much of anything, except "spot cleaning" him and have not reappeared.

It's so cute to read about how we take care of our furkids as if they were actually human kids!! Sometimes I think we're all so wacky!

If your using plastic bowls, throw them away and purchase stainless steel bowls. (this includes the ones you use for water).

Wash the face after eating with a warm wash cloth to remove the food. Then use Oxy pads to clean the pours. The Oxy pads have benzoil peroxide in them and will keep the hair folicules clear. If they have the *zits* bad, then a round of antibiotics may be needed to clear up the infection. Then you can keep it clear by using the stainless steel bowls, with face washing & oxy pads.
