I hope that someone can shed some light on this subject...I bought my husband a beautiful boxer pup for his 40th Birthday...He has had 2 boxers before...We have had a cat for 3 years prior to the pup...Well, Monko likes to go downstairs and jump in the litter box...That wouldn't be so bad, but she likes to bring little cat treats upstairs..."YUCK"...Can anyone give me some suggestions on this undesirable "Cat Treat" problem??? Thank You...

Get a covered cat box. Seriously, we had the same problem with one of our boxers. The cat box was in the basement, and we got a long hook and eye for the basement door that allowed the cats, but not the boxer, to get through. End of problem. Good luck.

NOt only Boxers but alot of the breeds for some reason love to get in the litter boxes and have a snack, but it isn't always a litter box, cow pastures also and that is even sicker (of course my opinion I don't have a cat, but my parents have cows). and for some reason Ellie will go out in the pen and try and eat her own poop after it has dried, she always has. We try to stop her, but gees they are in the pen to play not to be babysat.

Kitty Roca

We call it Kitty Roca over here. I ended up having to give the cat her own room. I set up a baby gate so the Boxers can't get in and cut a small hole at the bottom so Smokey can easily get in and out. We put her food in there as well. She loves her room :)

I might be wrong but I was always under the impression that dogs will eat weird things if something is missing from their diet. If they are treating the "cat treats" like toys then that wouldn't be the case but if they are actually eating them like food then it might be a diet thing.:)

We have done the same thing, except the cats have thier own floor. We have a split level house, so the main floor is the top floor. We have a baby gate in front of the stairs high enough for the cats to go under. It works really well. Thier food and small toys (that the boys could swallow) are down there.
I don't think there is anything you can do about dogs eating cat poop. I have talked to several vets about it and they all said it is normal and wont hurt the dogs. As for them eating thier own poop, there is a thread about it, that is very interesting.

I do have an extra room that the cat could have :) ... That is a great idea!

Monko is making a game out of it...She does it when she gets excited and chases the cat to the basement...Monko will stop in her tracks, turn around and jump into the covered litter box?? Soon she will be too big to get into the hole... :) My husband was so happy that I asked this question...Wonderful ideas...Thanks to all!!!

I tries everything to keep my dogs out of the litter box, got a covered one, they stuck their heads in, got a gate, they jumped it. The cats have their oun room, but I didnt want to trap them in it because my dogs are heathens. My last line of hope was a littermaid electric litterbox. I was skeptical at first, espically because of the price, but after one day, I was a believer. It was a good investment, not only does it remove the remains into a "puppy proof" container, but I cant even smell the litter box, and you go through a lot less litter. To me it was well worth the $89.00. Good luck, I know how sneaky those boxers can be.

Cat doo as treats

Boxers, any dog, likes cat poo because it has protein in it, as well as horse and cow poo. They know is has a lot of protein in it somehow. I saw this on some discovery show or something like that. My dogs would love to eat it but they can't get to it, unless it's in the garbage. Our cats are outside, the litter box is up high on a table where they don't get to it. It won't hurt them in most cases. If you cat has worms, the dog can get worms from the eating cat poo if the worms in their poo is still alive. I think that is the only thing that is bad. Outside cats get worms more often from the mice and stuff that they eat. Hope I helped a little.
