'You don't want to mess with him'

[My Samson]

It was a beautiful day here so I couldn't wait to get home and take Samson for a walk in the park. So, I get home and get Samson in the car and we go to the park. Of course, we always walk by other people with dogs. Today, we passed by these two guys with two Scottish Terriers (I think that's the correct name.) Anyway, as we walk by his dogs (as well as Samson) sort of make a bee-line for one another (which is normal) and the guy makes a comment to his dogs and says 'you guys don't want to mess with him'.

I was a little annoyed by this comment. Do boxers look mean?!

I don't think Samson has a mean bone in his body!

I guess people who don't know about Boxers would assume they look mean.
Which is sad.. :( I can't tell you how many people ask me if Koa is a Pit or is he nice? :rolleyes: Please!!

Its the difference between little dog and big dog people that makes me insane! I recently found A boxer and while I was waiting in line at the vet's to have her scanned to find the owner (we did) a man had a "mop dog" you know the type. Well the boxer luged forward only because she noticed he had a dog with him to smell it and he jumped away and says easy there boy you can't afford to eat this one she's REALLY EXPENSIVE! Like boxers are free Oh god give me a break! I told DH the story he laughed so hard! The boxer we found was so Beautiful like one from a magazine I wouldn't be surprised if she was a champion and his mop was expensive!

Maybe he was just intimidated by Samson's size?

Maybe...he was warning the little lap rat..(who probably has little dog syndrome..and needs to throw his weight around)..that although the lap rat acts like he can "take" anyone, the boxer is much larger and more powerful and *IF* said Boxer wanted to..he could give that rat a whoopin like he's never had

Thanks for the replies...Donna, you made me laugh!! Since this is my first boxer - it's really hard for me to gauge Samson's size, I guess. I was going by his judgement on looks alone...and Samson has the cutest smoosh face...he doesn't look CLOSE to being mean!!

I just posted something like this the other day. We were at the park and this owner of a small terrier type told her dog "no playing with boxers" when Champ tried to play with him. I was upset too. Some people just don't know, or have the wrong idea. It's frustrating. Sorry :(
