has anyone tried apple cider vinegar? i read in martin goldstein's book to dilute it w/ water and put a little bit into the ear and massage. i noticed an improvement in mekhi's ears but, didn't realize the dry ends were related to the yeast- always learning something new about boxers!

Ears

Mia had yeasty ears when Ibrought her home. The Vet gave me some DermaPet, it is a great smelling solution that is great for clearing yeast up,as well as just general cleaning. I have only seen it at the Vet's office. No one else will carry it for me. It is not too expensive,so I would suggest that you check it out. I hope this helps.

Sorry I have never heard of the apple vinegar for that.;)

I admit I didn't clean Enzo's ears as much as I should have at first, those floppy things could be used as wepons when he shakes. I noticed him this past summer just wouldn't leave them alone... always scratchin'. Off to the vet we went, he got the doctors power flush then gave me some "Nolvasan Otic". Now once a week I set him down and climb into those things. He dosen't like it much but he puts up with me... I think he is getting accustomed to the standard beef stick afterwards. :D

meadow had major ear problems..the vet gave us a wash for once a week said to clean them with a q tip and then a medicine that seemed to do the trick...no more smelly ears..no more middle of the night scratch sessions...just all around better attitude..check with your vet...good luck

Completely Boxer Crazy
The vet, mind you not the regular one that we see but at the same office, mentioned a 50/50 solution of vinegar and alcohol to be dispensed a few drops at a time into each ear periodically. This is supposed to help keep them dry.......if you live in the rainforest like we do here in the Pacific Northwest, keeping a dog's inner ear dry is quite a task.

Maddy runs around like a crazy woman in the rain AND snow and frequently gets moisture in her ears, especially when they flop back from her shenanigans. It never fails how much we dry her or the ears, she's had two yeast infections in that past 3 months or so. STINKY! :o

Apple cider vineger

When I first heard about a.c.v. I thought I would give it a try, I don't like to use anything harsh(chemicals) on sally. So when I need to clean, or she digs or her ears just don't smell right I sprits her ears with the 50/50 water vineger mix. They smell a little strong for awhile, but it really works for her ears. I keep another spray bottle of strait a.c.v. that sprays in a stream as an alternative to noise or scolding. She shys away from the odor of the vineger. And it does'nt say "Hazards to humans and domestic animals" on the lable. :(
