KentuckyColt
Boxer Pal
Hey guys! I have a question on yeast infections in ears. Poor Colt started over the weekend being sensitive to us rubbing his ears, and by Sunday night when I cleaned them he whimpered and swatted me away. I sniffed them later, and thought I caught a musty/yeasty smell out of his left ear. I grew up with a dog that would have a yeast infection every time we turned around it seemed, so I was highly suspicious
. We went to the vet Tuesday, and apparently I have a super nose cause it was the very beginning of one. He also confirmed that Colt probably had some allergies like we thought since he's had paw irritation. We were sent home with Baytril Otic ear drops and told to call in a few days if he doesn't seem to be getting better. I'm most likely calling them tomorrow, as he seems to be fighting getting the ear drops more (he whines every time we massage his ears after them even if we're really gentle), doesn't want us to even touch his ears, and even snapped at his best friend when she nuzzled it yesterday at the park.
I've looked online to see if there were any sites that had symptoms of worsening yeast infections, but couldn't find anything. We want to do a couple more doses of ear drops before being those pet parents that call over something that isn't a big deal.
So I had the thought to ask ya'll this: has any one had this problem with their babies (ears seeming to get worse even on ear drops- I'm sure most of ya'll have fought ear infections)? Do you think we should give the drops a few more days before thinking it's not working? I feel like I'm stressing over something simple, and am being stupid since we went through this so many thousands of times with Cuddles. But at the same time he's acting more sensitive over them than even earlier this week.
