My little Doja actually rang the bell for the first time yesterday.... Thanks to all of the wonderful advice here, I followed, and sure enough, after only two weeks or so.... SHES RINGING THE BELL!!!! :) Doesn't do everytime.... But its a sign, before my problem was that she would wait at the door, and if I didn't notice her after a second or so.... she would go potty inside.... Now she sits, and waits, if I don't see her, RING RING RING!

I am so happy! It really amazes me at how smart they are. Now I don't feel so dumb talking to her all the time.... I really think, with anything, with the repitition, you can teach them anything. So I often talk to her with phrases and things I have used before..... and its really starting to pay off......

congrats!! just wait, soon she will figure out that ringing the bell gets her outside so she can play! :D Since I taught Adam to ring the bell, I have not had a single (knock on wood!) accident in the house. Yippiee!!!

Bell training is the best thing you can do. It Helped me so much with house breaking that I was happy I did it after putting off buying a bell for 2 weeks then bam he was ringing it and not peeing and pooping inside.
Now its time to teach him not to ring it just to fake it for the treats lol.

This is how I did it.
I got my pup when he was 8 weeks I stayed home for 2 weeks and followed him around as best I could to make sure he was outside when he had to go.
When he did do it inside I just cleaned it up with some cleaner I got from pet shop.
As I said the first 2 weeks I put off buying a bell but by this time I notices that when he did have an accidents inside it was next to the back door.
I bought a round bell tied it to a rope and to the door knob just high enough the he could hit it with his nose then pointed to it and said ring the bell and helped him do it then opened the door and gave him a treat. I helped him about 5 times after that all I had to do was point and say ring the bell and he would do it I did this for like 15 min just pointed said ring the bell he would ring then I would open the door and give him a treat. about 20 min later I took him to the door again pointed and said ring the bell he rang it I opened the door this time I made him go outside I said go pee pee he did and I gave him the treat. It only took him 2 days and he was hooked on ringing the bell to go outside. The first 2 weeks after teaching him to ring the bell he only went peepee 2 times inside (because I wasn't fast enough to get to the door and he could hold it.) and not one time has he pooped inside since. For a 10-11 week old pup I think im one lucky DOG. Just make sure your pup loves the treats and some loving don't hurt.
After playing take to ring the bell.
After his naps take to ring the bell.
And about every 15-20 min take to ring the bell.

I don't know if you have any key phrases for going outside.... But as soon as I get home and we need to go outside, when I take her out of her crate, I say, "Outside Doja, Outside" and she runs toward the door. She sits, (on her own) and I say "ring the bell baby" , and its "outside, ring ring, open door, she goes out" I praise her the whole time..... she comes in and I continue to praise and give her an awesome treat.... I'm praising, one, for ringing the bell, and 2, for going potty outside..... so, with all this praise, she can't help but connect the two.... bell, praise, potty, praise = lots of treats! and thats it..... just keep up the repitition

Thank-you for the detail. I hope I am as successful with the Bell training. What a wonderful solution. We do use a key phrase of "who has to go potty". My youngest often stands at the door, but does not make a noise. I have also posted an intro.
