I can imagine that you are disappointed not to get Deacon's sister but it may be for the best. A personal note -- I had litter mates and they were very close. One thing I didn't think about when I got them is that their genetic timeclocks were just about identical. Consequently they died (of old age at 11 years) within 3.5 months of each other (this past August & December). That was really hard to lose the 2 of them so closely. I don't think I would get littermates again because of that. For me, I think it would be best to get dogs perhaps 2 years apart in age.

Reading about your dgos makes me sad!!! Ours are littermates, and I didn't think about that at all! They whine if one isn't there for even a little while. I have thought about how much they will miss each other, but didn't consider the timeline...thanks for the heads up, even though mine are only 6.5 months old!

I think my note may have been excessively negative -- I had 11 great years with them. They were apart only when one was at the vet. I can't imagine them not together (they were rescued puppies who had a rough start -- their previous alcoholic owner would go on benders and not feed them or their parents, a neighbor would toss hot dogs over the fence so they would have something to eat before they were rescued -- I got when they were 5 months old) and I don't for 1 second regret having the 2 of them. The inevitable trip over the Rainbow Bridge is an issue that is hard to imagine but needs to be considered.
