Would you allow any vet to perform surgery?

Would you allow any vet to perform surgery on your boxer?

I would originally have said a loud - NO WAY. However, we are temporarily near Elkhart, Indiana, hours away from our regular vet for the next 3-4 months. Recently I noticed gum epilus in my boxer that bleed from time to time. Concerned, I brought him in to a local vet who recommended surgery to remove it. I have it scheduled w/ this vet, but have that gut feeling that maybe we should make the trip home to have our regular vet (the one my boxer has been seeing since 7 weeks) check out the situation.

I don't know if I am putting way too much thought into this or being overly cautious.

Any thoughts?

I try never to ignore those "gut feelings". Just my thoughts.

I think I would probably give my own vet a call and see what she thinks she might know the vet and say hes a great surgeon or she might even call and get a heads up. I have used the same vet for years through all my animals.

I agree with the others. Probably wouldn't hurt to give your old vet a call at the very least. They may tell you to go ahead with the surgery, but you never know.

Personally to me in would depend on how critical the circumstances were before I would let another vet perform surgery on my babies.

I agree with everyone else and for you to call your regular vet and see what he/she has to say.

You know your baby better than anyone else and you know what is right so I would go by gut instinct and by what my regular vet advises.

Another option would be to go to another vet in the area you are in now just for a second opinion and maybe not mention that you have been to another vet and just see what that vet has to say?

I hate some vets!

My family used the same vet for all of our dogs, from when I was a baby, right until we moved this past year. This vet was amazing!! We moved, and I went to a local place that I found online (we moved kind of far away, and our original vet didn't really know anyone in the area) when Trooper had an alergic reaction.
I went in, and it was so procedural it was disgusting! I didn't like it when I walked in the first time, and my "gut" was confirmed when we went in another time and he got a shot and they didn't hold him enough, had him muzzled (he's 12 pounds! ) and he ran and the needle ripped and cut him pretty bad, AND they prescribed him steroids for the second time (exact same pills!) for a totally different issue!!
I asked around, and my landlord recently told me to take Bella (the new puppy) to the guy he goes to! We mentioned his name "MIKE" and he said "Jack and Chill!?" (HE KNEW THE DOGS NAMES OFF THE TOP OF HIS HEAD!) It was love at first sight with this guy.

I would definitely check out a vet more before bringing my little kids in there now, and I recommend you do the same!!!!
