Won't walk on back leg!!!

Guinness had gone out to the backyard and I notced when he came to the door something wasn't right. He wasn't putting weight on his back leg...This was about 20 min ago... he is starting to put weight on it but he lets out a little cry... he lets me touch it and he doesn't cry, it's just putting weight on it that bugs him... How do I know if it's just a sprain...I don't want to call the vet unless I have to since his office is already closed...

Poor guy.:( Rocco did the same thing and that was because he had a broken toe on his back right paw. You might want to take him in first thing in the morning and get him X-Rayed to make sure nothing is broken. Was he playing outside today? That's how Rocco broke his toe, he was playing with another dog.

He likes to run around and there is really no light in our yard...he's not crying anymore and I'm off tomorrow so I'll see how he does this evening...Thanks for responding I was ready to freak out...I think it is his paw, his leg seems ok no swelling and he'll let me handle it-just doesn't want me to touch his paw...looks (well feels...) like he was lickng there too...

No problem It's scary. Rocco didn't like us touching his paw either. Are you sure there's not a cut in his pad? That's what I thought was wrong with him at first then I put some peroxide on it and nothing bubbled up. His paw wasn't swollen till morning and then he wouldn't stop licking it which made it worse. Let us know how the Vet visit goes.

PS..I just noticed you're from Chicago!

As long as there is nothing obviously wrong, ie: he's bleeding or in a lot of pain, you could wait until tomorrow to take him to the vet. It could be just a minor strain. I wouldn't think that a trip to the emergency vet is in order, but you are the one that needs to make that call as we can't see him.

He seems fine this morning, his toe is just red kind of bruised. He still doesn't like me touching it but doesn't appear to be in any pain... so I'll just keep an eye on him... He also ate a heartworm pill along with the foil and he's not due til the 1st of Nov... I don't know what I"m going to do with him...!!!

Rocco...I was born and raised in Chicago (the NW side) just moved to Schaumburg...check out the bash forum we're getting together out west on SUnday...
