I have a 7 year old male boxer (Jack) which is one of three that we have. The other two Deacon and Classy. Jack has been very sick lately. He will not eat we have hand fed him a few things like chicken ,cooked ham and anything else we feel he could keep down. He drinks a ton of water but he was always a big water drinker. He has lost at least ten pounds. Jack did have an infection that ampicillin knocked out of him about a year ago. Right now I am unemployed and actively seeking employment. Which will be as soon as I get my new eyeglasses so I can see properly while I'm driving. I believe Jack has the same infection and some ampicillin would put him back on his feet again. I would really like to go to the vet which will be a few weeks before I can do that. If anyone has any ampicillin that there not using please contact me threw e-mail at Email removed by moderator - read the rules before your account is deletedI live about 15 miles from Boston.

I think you need to find a way to get Jack to a vet. Not eating and weight loss isn't a good thing. Hope it isn't anything serious.

You've got to be kidding. It is incredibly dangerous to throw second-hand antibiotics at a dog for a problem that has absolutely no medical diagnosis. Drinking large quantities of water and refusing food is just as likely to be indicative of a kidney problem as some sort of infection - and if that were the case, antibiotics could make things substantially worse.

Take your dog to a vet. He is clearly sick and needs treatment (and that's more important than your eyeglasses). Ask them if they'll accept a payment plan, or check with local humane societies for low cost/subsidised options. But for goodness sake give up the idea of obtaining old antibiotics from strangers to treat a problem that you don't even know the cause of.

You also need to go back and re-read the rules for participating on this site. The next post you make needs to be an introduction to the community in the introductions forum (per the site rules, that is supposed to be your first post - before you start participating to the rest of the forums). And if you post your email address or any other private contact details on this site again, your account will be immediately deleted.

I apologize to the forum for not doing things properly. Within the next hour Jack will be on his way to the angel memorial hospital to get the proper treatment he deserves. I guess a good chewing out is what I needed to do the proper thing. Again I'm sorry for not properly introducing myself to the forum. I havent slept in a few nights and I wasnt thinking correctly. But now I am thinking and doing the right thing.

Good :) And hopefully you're quite correct - it's just an infection and some antibiotics will take care of it. But it's simply not worth taking the risk that the problem is something different and antibiotics (or the wrong antibiotics)could make it worse. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's a simple, easily-treated infection :) Do let us know the results.

Well I just got the diagnosis. After complete xray of his chest and spleen Jack had several tumors in his lungs, stomach and spleen. As I sit here in tears I know I did the right thing. Sorry Jack I loved you very much.

Oh dear. I'm so sorry to hear that :( I was certainly hoping, as I know you were, that it was something easily cured. I don't imagine it is of much comfort right now, but at least he didn't endure a long period of suffering. I'm very sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. But I am glad he is not feeling anymore pain. You made a very hard, but selfless decision. You're in my prayers.
