ok, so we taught sydney that when she needed to go potty she should tap the sliding glass door.

However now when she's bored, she'll tap on the door to be let out. Then when we close the door she turns around and taps on it again to let her back in!! But when i open the door she wont come back in until I take out a treat and lure her in =/ *sigh*

Im worried that she is learning that she can go out and come back in and get a treat, so she may be doing it to get treats =/ Ive tried closing the door on her again if she doesnt come in, but then she starts getting frustrated after me doing this a few times and she jumps up and slams the glass door, which im afraid may break when she's fully grown (shes now only 6months).

How do I teach her to come back into the house w/o giving her a treat!?

Roxy doesn't have very good recall in the backyard either. She thinks I'm playing when I call her. what I've been doing lately, and it does seem to be working, is calling her, giving treats, but not grabbing her to take her in. That way she doesn't associate coming to me as "the end of the fun times". So, she will run over, I'll give her a treat, pet her and tell her she's a good girl, then let her run around some more. Like I said, so far, it really is making a difference, I'm just hoping it will last. Good luck!

backyard return

I have the same problem, even though Jaz ( my 5 month old pup) will stay in the yard ( she's a chicken, no one else can get near her eg. the neighbors) she wants to play when i can't play with her so i take out the leash & act silly to get her to come. She'll grab onto her leash and walk right in the house with me after a few minutes. She has alot to learn. I use the car for my 2 year old male ( rescue, who hasn't learned " the boundries of the yard"), he loves going byes...thank god we live in the farm lands.I'll be in bad shape when they figure it out lol! gl

I swear i had two more kids!.. twin demons! gotta lov'em! They take after my hubby =)

The simplest solution is to take her out to potty on a leash ;)

The rest is attention-getting behaviour - from what sounds like a bored teenager. How much exercise and training time does she get daily? It sounds as though she probably needs more. Then she'll spend less time thinking up inventive games to try to get you to play.

A baby boxer like that needs a couple of hours of good hard exercise (running and playing) each day. So if you take her out to potty on a leash that will solve the tapping and running away issue. But you need to make sure that you take her out for some good hard games several times a day too.
